Consumers have criticised the exclusion of fresh dairy and poultry products from the recent sales offers, noting that most of the offers offered by outlets are focused on goods and products of familiar and recurring brands.
They explained to “Emarat Al Youm” that fresh food commodities in general witness limited price reduction offers compared to other commodities, despite their importance, especially dairy and poultry.
In turn, officials in the retail sector attributed the absence of discounts on basic food commodities and their products to the supply policies of the supplying companies, and the marketing policies of the sales outlets themselves.
They stressed that retail markets are highly competitive, providing families with many shopping options and searching for the offers that best suit their needs, in addition to the appropriate prices.
Consumer Reviews
In detail, consumer Mahmoud Atta said: “I searched among the offers presented in the markets during the recent period for special discounts on fresh poultry and dairy products, but I did not find them, despite them being basic food commodities with high demand among families on a daily basis.”
For his part, consumer Ahmed Mohie criticized the fact that most outlets focus on discount offers on recurring goods and brands, while excluding, most of the time, fresh food products, such as poultry and dairy products, and offering discounts, but limited ones, on other fresh goods.
He said: “It is important for discounts to take into account the family’s requirements and the most important materials it consumes so that they are truly beneficial to it, and not just a sale of certain goods and brands under the name of (offers and discounts).”
Consumer Hussein Basyouni agreed that most stores exclude poultry, dairy and fresh cheese products from discount offers, saying: “It was important to include these products in outlet campaigns related to the back-to-school season, especially since they are products that families are interested in.”
Consumer Thanaa Abdul Majeed was surprised by the focus of sales outlets within discount campaigns on repeatedly displaying specific goods and brands, whether food or consumer goods, while almost constantly excluding more important products such as poultry and fresh dairy products of various types. She agreed with the opinion that discounts on basic food commodities should be introduced and supported within back-to-school discount campaigns.
Supply Policies
In this regard, the sales manager at a retail chain, Mohammed Bashir, told Al-Emarat Al-Youm: “The exclusion of some goods from discount offers is due to the supply policies of the supplying companies, which focus on certain goods and expand the discounts on them without other goods.”
For his part, Dilip Vishal, the purchasing manager at a retail chain, agreed on the supply policies, saying: “Goods are included in the offers according to two factors: the supply policies of companies specializing in supplying goods, in addition to the marketing policies of the sales outlets themselves, which in turn choose the goods included in the offers according to the profit margin available to provide discount rates on those products.”
He added: “Retail markets are highly competitive, allowing families to have many shopping options and search for the offers that best suit each family’s needs and at appropriate prices.”
Discount rates
In the same context, the CEO of Community Relations at Union Cooperative, Dr. Suhail Al Bastaki, said: “Offers at sales outlets depend on the discount rates offered by supply companies on various goods, in addition to the rates offered by the sales outlets themselves.”
He added: “The fact that some outlets exclude certain goods from discount offers may be due to the marketing policies of those outlets,” considering that “the diversity of marketing offers in the markets, with the availability of multiple shopping options, allows consumers the opportunity to search for discounts that suit them among the different outlets.”
