Ryan Malhan (14 years old) gave the UAE its first Asian medal in badminton, after winning third place in the Asian Championship for juniors under 15 and 17 years old, which concluded its competitions the day before yesterday in the Chinese city of Chengdu.

Rising star Malhan from Prime Star Academy concluded his Asian Junior Badminton Championships journey with a narrow 21-16, 21-17 semi-final defeat to China’s Qian Jia Xing, to claim third place and the bronze medal in the Under-15 singles category. Malhan became the first player from the UAE and West Asia to win a medal at an Asian Badminton Championship.

For her part, President of the UAE Badminton Federation, Noura Al Jasmi, expressed her happiness with what has been achieved, stressing that this historic achievement reflects the development witnessed by the game in recent years.

She explained in press statements that “the medal that Malhan won inspired many and set a milestone in the history of badminton in the UAE. It will give him more experience and enhance his presence on the international scene.”
