Emirates Today learned that a club in the ADNOC Professional League has entered into negotiations with Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim to contract with him during the coming period.
A source close to Jardim confirmed that he received an offer from one of the clubs competing for titles to take over as coach of the team, after the club decided to dismiss the current coach, due to declining results.
He pointed out that the 50-year-old coach welcomed returning to work in the Emirates, explaining that he gave his agent the green light to negotiate the details of the contract, in terms of the contract duration and annual salary.
It is noteworthy that Jardim is not currently under contract with any team, after the Qatari club Al Rayyan decided to terminate his contract last June, following the end of the 2023-2024 season.
Shabab Al-Ahly had entered into negotiations with its former coach to return to coach the team this season, and the Portuguese coach did not mind the idea of ​​returning to lead the Dubai Knights, but the failure to resolve his position with Al-Rayyan and the club’s refusal to pay the release clause led to the negotiations stopping, so Shabab Al-Ahly contracted with Portuguese coach Paulo Sousa, while Jardim left Al Rayyan.
It is noteworthy that Jardim had achieved great success with the Dubai Knights, as he led the team to achieve the ADNOC Professional League title in the 2022-2023 season for the first time after an absence of seven years, and the eighth in its history.
Jardim has a wonderful career, most notably with Al Hilal Saudi Arabia, where he won the 2021 AFC Champions League title for the fourth time in its history, and the 2022 Saudi Super Cup title, in addition to a number of titles and championships, including the French League title with Monaco in the 2016-2017 season. .
