17 Emirati scientists participate in the BRICS Young Scientists Forum

The UAE participated in the ninth session of the BRICS Young Scientists Forum, and the seventh session of the BRICS Award for Young Innovators, which was held in the Russian city of Sochi.

The participating youth presented ideas and visions from an Emirati perspective, based on the Emirati vision of consolidating the country’s position as a global destination for technology and innovation.

This participation – the country’s first since it joined the BRICS group in January 2024 – came in the context of affirming its keenness to support youth and emerging talents, and enhancing their role in contributing to global dialogue in the fields of science, technology and innovation.

The Advanced Technology Research Council led the country’s delegation, which included representatives from a group of Emirati entities and universities, along with 17 young Emirati scientists who participated in the Young Scientists Forum in the BRICS countries and the BRICS Award for Young Innovators, as they nominated 11 innovative projects that covered the main topics discussed. This session of the Young Scientists Forum is about Environmental and Climate Technologies, Nature-Inspired Technologies and Digital Humanities.

Projects presented included the design of drones used to rehabilitate mangrove forests, and advanced technologies in the field of bioinformatics to support immunotherapy.

Representatives of the Emirates participated in the competition for the BRICS Award for Young Innovators, where they presented innovative projects in vital specializations such as smart agriculture supported by Internet of Things technologies, and sustainable biodiesel production, affirming the UAE’s commitment to confronting pressing global issues through youth-led innovation and research.

The UAE’s participation was distinguished by its strategic role in the BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Steering Committee, and its leadership of the programs of the Young Scientists Forum and the Young Innovators Award thanks to the leadership role of members of the Advanced Technology Research Council.
