4,557 sites in violation of the laws protection laws in 2024


The blocking of sites that violate the legislation and laws of intellectual property protection in the country witnessed a qualitative leap, during the past year, as the Insta Block Center for immediate blocking in Dubai Media City, which was established by the Ministry of Economy with the aim of addressing the violating digital content broadcasting sites, managed to block 4557 violating sites in 2024, compared to 1123 sites in 2023, which reflects the great progress achieved by the UAE in Confronting digital infringement and protecting the intellectual rights of creators.

The Insta Block project comes within the new system of intellectual property, which includes more than 30 initiatives aimed at enhancing the state’s position in addressing any practice that violates intellectual property rights, as well as within the efforts of the Ministry of Economy in establishing a safe and sustainable digital environment, which enhances investment in creative content and stimulates the growth of the digital media sector in the state, in a way that contributes to enhancing its competitiveness in global indicators to combat digital piracy.

The Minister of Economy, Abdullah bin Touq Al -Marri, stressed during a visit to the Insta Block Center, that the UAE is going with a steady pace to consolidate its pioneering position as a global center for innovation and creativity, and protecting and investing ideas as one of the tributaries of the national economy.

He added that the establishment of the Insta Block Center reflects the state’s commitment to developing a pioneering system for the protection of intellectual property depending on the best practices used globally, creating a creative environment that supports talented and innovators, and enabling the tools of creative economics according to the vision of “We UAE 2031”.

Ben Touq reviewed at Insta Block on the mechanisms of the work of the center, and the advanced technologies he uses, which include the use of artificial intelligence tools to determine the violating content and withhold it immediately, which enhances the speed and efficiency of enforcement of the legislation concerned with protecting intellectual property rights, through partnerships and agreements signed with major media institutions and regional and global digital platforms, which aim to coordinate The joint efforts to ensure the protection of the intellectual rights of creators and producers of digital content.

Bin Touq said: «The development of the intellectual property sector in the UAE is a strategic priority that we are working to achieve through our partnerships with various governmental and private bodies, and adopt the latest technologies to enhance the penetration of legislation, which contributes to enabling creators and producers to achieve the maximum benefit from their intellectual and creative work, and to ensure the sustainability of the digital economy.

The visit shed light on the agreements concluded by the Ministry of Economy with a number of prominent bodies, which aim to enhance cooperation in the field of intellectual property rights protection, and to provide advanced mechanisms to protect the rights of authors and creators, and to ensure that the content is not published and exploited except with the permission of the rights holders.

In this context, Bin Touq stressed the importance of continuing to develop the Insta Block Center and enhance cooperation with local and international partners to expand digital protection.

He said that «accelerating the blocking of the violating content enhances the UAE’s ability to protect creativity, which establishes its leading position in supporting the possibilities of the new and digital economy, and are keen to continue developing innovative tools and technologies to ensure that all digital platforms are committed to legislation, and protecting the rights of creators to keep pace with accelerating digital transformations.
