Dubai Customs wins three international accreditations from US Global Institute for Innovation
Dubai Customs earned three international accreditations from the US Global Institute for Innovation for projects spanning vehicle clearance automation, a large X ray scanner, and MOFA attestation services
Dubai Customs announced it has received three international accreditations from the Global Institute for Innovation in the United States, underlining the authority’s push to modernize customs services. The certifications recognize projects that include automation of vehicle clearance certificates, a giant X ray scanner installation, and a digital attestation link with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Dubai Customs said the awards reflect its strategic focus on innovation and operational efficiency.
Three projects receive Global Institute for Innovation accreditation
The Global Institute for Innovation granted accreditations to three Dubai Customs initiatives after assessing their value and impact on trade facilitation. Two of the projects were classified at Level 2, which emphasizes service development to enhance competitive value. One project achieved Level 3, the institute’s highest categorization, due to its strategic contribution to expanding services and ensuring future sustainability.
Dubai Customs framed the recognitions as validation of its roadmap to digitize and automate key customs processes. The authority added that international evaluation helps benchmark local reforms against global best practice and supports Dubai’s position as a central trade and logistics hub.
Automation of vehicle clearance receives Level 2 recognition
One of the Level 2 accreditations was awarded to the automation of vehicle clearance certificates, a project designed to speed up procedures at ports and checkpoints. The automation reduces manual paperwork and shortens release cycles for vehicles, which in turn lowers dwell times and handling costs for logistics operators. Dubai Customs said the system improves traceability and compliance while delivering faster outcomes for importers and transport companies.
Officials highlighted that the initiative contributes to a more predictable trade environment by standardizing processes and reducing human error. The project is also intended to free staff capacity for higher value regulatory and intelligence functions within the authority.
Giant X ray scanner earns international endorsement
A second Level 2 accreditation acknowledged Dubai Customs use of a giant X ray scanner to enhance cargo inspection capabilities. The scanner increases the authority’s ability to detect concealed risks and contraband without resorting to intrusive inspections, thereby accelerating the movement of legitimate trade. Dubai Customs noted this technology helps balance security imperatives with the need for efficient supply chain flow.
The authority said the system is integrated with existing risk management and targeting tools, allowing inspectors to focus on high risk consignments. The large scanner also supports Dubai’s broader port and freezone screening strategies by delivering higher throughput with consistent detection performance.
MOFA attestation service achieves top Level 3 status
The attestation service partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received the highest Level 3 accreditation from the Global Institute for Innovation. Dubai Customs said the joint service creates a streamlined, end to end attestation pathway that reduces duplication and improves user convenience. Level 3 recognition reflects the project’s strategic value in expanding services and its potential to be scaled and sustained over time.
According to Dubai Customs, the attestation link contributes to a more integrated government service model and supports business and individual needs for rapid document authentication. The authority emphasized that the service aligns with Dubai government goals to provide proactive and citizen centric services by leveraging cross agency cooperation.
Leadership response and strategic implications
Atiq Al Muhairi, Executive Director of Customs Development at Dubai Customs, described the accreditations as evidence of turning strategic vision into measurable outcomes. He said the digital solutions have raised operational efficiency, accelerated procedure cycles, and improved trade fluidity. Muhairi framed the recognitions as part of Dubai Customs ongoing efforts to use technology to back a competitive business environment and secure the emirate’s role in global supply chains.
Dr Hussam Jumaa, Director of Service Innovation at Dubai Customs, added that the authority will continue to pursue ambitious development initiatives that adopt advanced technologies and automate customs workflows. He said these initiatives are aimed at improving operational performance, increasing stakeholder satisfaction, and supporting Dubai government priorities for proactive and future ready services.
Dubai Customs also signalled plans to build on the accredited projects by exploring further automation, smarter inspection tools, and stronger data integration with government partners. Officials indicated this will be coupled with training and process redesign to fully capitalize on technology investments.
Dubai Customs stressed that the international accreditations are part of an ongoing modernization programme, not a one off achievement. The authority said it will continue to invite external evaluation to ensure reforms remain aligned with global standards and the evolving needs of trade and logistics stakeholders.
The recognitions from the Global Institute for Innovation are the latest in a series of measures by Dubai Customs to enhance service delivery, improve compliance, and promote seamless trade. The authority stated that accredited projects will be monitored and refined to maintain performance gains and deliver sustained benefits across the economy.
