Abu Dhabi Ports Group confirmed yesterday the completion of the acquisition deal of Tbilisi Dry Port in Georgia, making the group the largest owner with a 60% stake.

Under this step, Abu Dhabi Ports Group will own and operate a state-of-the-art, multi-modal logistics hub, including a bonded warehouse area and connected to a railway network, which will represent a major milestone in the group’s journey to expand its global presence and enhance its role in linking Asia and Europe. Abu Dhabi Ports stated in a statement that the project is expected to start operating in October of this year. It is a major logistics hub distinguished by its strategic location along the Middle Corridor, a promising trade route linking manufacturing centers in West Asia with consumer markets in Eastern Europe, benefiting from a group of sea and dry ports in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and Turkey.

She pointed out that this new center is a vital logistics facility linking the Caspian Sea with the Black Sea, which overlooks mainly the Middle Corridor. The project represents an entry and exit port and a regional transit point for manufacturers, shippers and importers of containerized goods, vehicles and other goods for distribution and storage purposes. It will also provide direct access to the westward railway lines to Turkey and the Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi.
