The Ministry of the Interior confirmed that there are two conditions for erasing traffic points for violators, which is that one year has passed and they have not reached the cumulative limit of points (24 points), explaining that traffic points are a number of points assigned to the violating vehicle driver, in exchange for some traffic violations he commits, The number of points is proportional to the seriousness of the violation, and is calculated from the date the violation was committed.

She pointed out that the procedures that are applied if the violations reach the cumulative limit are confiscating the driving license and suspending it for a period of three months in the first traffic violation, confiscating the driving license and suspending it for a period of six months in the second violation, and confiscating the driving license for a year. It will be returned to its owner only after passing a training course at one of the driving institutes approved by the competent authority in the third precedent.

She explained that the traffic violations record is the record in which the driver’s traffic violations are recorded, the date of their commission, and the number of traffic points on him for each violation, while the cumulative limit means reaching the number of traffic points (24 points) within a period of time not exceeding one year.

Regarding the measures taken against holders of a temporary driving license (on probation), if his violations reach the cumulative limit, the Ministry of Interior explained that the driving license is seized, suspended for a period of six months, and is not returned to him except after passing a rehabilitation course at the Driving Institute. If the driver repeatedly reaches the cumulative limit during the trial period, the driving license will be cancelled, and he may not apply for examination until one year from the date of the license cancellation.

According to the Federal Traffic Law, there are 24 traffic violations for which the perpetrator is subject to the penalty of impounding the vehicle for periods ranging from a week to 90 days, and 61 violations that result in traffic points between 4 and 24 points, out of a total of 114 violations listed in the law.

For its part, Abu Dhabi Police stated that it provides a system to reduce traffic points, which includes three programs, which provide the opportunity for those who commit traffic violations to review their behavior and adherence to the laws and regulations, and all drivers who have traffic points recorded in their record for committing traffic violations benefit from it.

The first program includes every registered driver entitled to traffic points from (8 to 23) points. Entry into the program is allowed once a year for each traffic record, and eight points are reduced upon passing the course. The second program benefits drivers whose driving licenses have been withdrawn, and those who exceed the cumulative limit for traffic points. Those with first, second, and third traffic records include temporary and permanent licenses. One of its conditions is that the license be actually withdrawn, and the legal period for withdrawal has been met, while the third program targets every driver. A vehicle with a violation that includes its impoundment.

She explained that one of the conditions for registration in the program is to review the traffic violator driver, provided that the vehicle has not been actually impounded, and to pay the violation after completing the training program.

Black points system

Traffic departments began implementing the federal black points system in 2008 on traffic violations, including two violations for which the license is immediately withdrawn, and the violator is charged the cumulative limit (24 points), namely using the vehicle to transport passengers without a license, and using the vehicle to transport dangerous materials or… Flammable without a license, while 23 points are recorded for six violations, the most prominent of which is driving a vehicle in a way that endangers the life of the driver or the life, safety or security of others, and 12 points are recorded. He was charged with eight traffic violations, the most prominent of which were jumping a red light and exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 60 kilometers per hour.

According to Article Two of the Federal Traffic Law, a driver can erase eight points from his total points before reaching the cumulative limit if he passes a training course at driving institutes.
