A garden for autism treatment will be opened in the country at the beginning of the next academic year


The Ministry of Community Development announced its intention to open the first park dedicated to the treatment and entertainment of children with autism disorder in the country, at the beginning of the next academic year, at a time when recent statistics issued by the Ministry revealed that the number of people with autism disorder registered in the People of Determination card system reached 1,600. State level.

The Director of the Department of People of Determination at the Ministry of Community Development, Wafa Hamad bin Sulaiman, stated that the game (cozy dome) works to strengthen the muscles of the upper part of the body and the lower part, and trains the child in motor planning and motor coordination.

She pointed out that the game (sensory play center) provides the child with visual and tactile stimuli, trains him in the skill of visual motor coordination, fine movements, and motor planning, and develops the skill of problem solving, strategies, and thinking.

She continued that the bongo panel game provides the child with audio-visual stimuli, and also works to develop the skill of visual-motor synergy and motor planning, noting the presence of the roller slide game, which works to stimulate the child with tactile stimuli and through the sense of position, and also provides his vestibular system with sensory stimuli. .

The Director of the People of Determination Department at the Ministry, Wafa Hamad bin Suleiman, told Emirates Today that the park established in the vicinity of the Umm Al Quwain Autism Center was designed to suit children who suffer from autism disorder, and at the same time benefits children in general, noting that studies It has been proven that children playing in parks and engaging in motor activity develop their coordination and balance abilities and develop their skills.

She pointed out that the park, which is scheduled to be opened during the third quarter of this year, will provide a place for children to play and explore the natural world around them, stressing that both have an important benefit in stimulating their psychological, intellectual, emotional and physical development.

She continued that playing in parks reduces aggression among children, due to the calming effect of motor activities that directly affect the child’s brain waves, pointing out that motor activities have a positive effect on the organic aspect of children’s bodies, as they work to reduce their exposure to diseases.

Bin Suleiman explained that motor activities develop children’s coordination and balance abilities, and also improve the level of awareness and logical perception, while stimulating the child with sensory-motor stimuli increases his ability to concentrate and pay attention.

In addition, Bin Sulaiman introduced a number of devices, tools and games included in the park, which in turn will help specialists implement programs to develop children’s sensory, motor and cognitive skills.

She said that garden games include a spinner game, which works to provide children with sensory-motor stimuli that target the vestibular system and the sense of position. It also works to develop motor skills, especially the upper part of the child’s body in terms of strengthening muscles and training for balance. It also develops his cognitive skills by working on Training him to solve problems, and increasing children’s ability to develop their social skills through imaginative play and their cooperation in solving problems.

She added that among the games there is also a swing game and another game called (We Saw), which work to develop the child’s motor skills such as motor planning, strengthening the trunk and motor coordination, in addition to their role in developing his problem-solving skills and social skills.
