The Integrated Transport Center (Abu Dhabi Transport), affiliated with the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has launched a new category of commercial bicycle plates, to meet the needs of companies and consumers alike, in the commercial transport market in Abu Dhabi, and will be officially launched next Wednesday (the beginning of the new year).
The initiative comes in light of Abu Dhabi Transport’s endeavor to enhance economic efficiency and improve the quality of life in society, as it is concerned with offering new license plates for economic and commercial activities that are distinguished by a specific color for this category. Yellow was chosen for commercial bicycle license plates because of its significance symbolizing economic activities, and thus Distinguishing them from bicycles used for individuals.
The introduction of a new category of commercial bicycle license plates also reflects Abu Dhabi Transport’s commitment to developing the sustainable transportation infrastructure in the emirate, to enhance the effectiveness of commercial transportation through bicycles. The initiative targets companies and institutions that use bicycles as a means of transportation or delivery services, which contributes to organizing these activities. And ensuring its adherence to the specified standards, as well as achieving more effectiveness in commercial transportation operations within the emirate.
The Executive Director of the Drivers and Vehicles Licensing Sector, Mohammed Al-Breik Al-Amri, confirmed that this initiative will play an important role in enhancing road safety and security, and supporting the process of bicycle traffic through monitoring and distinguishing them based on their ownership, whether for companies or individuals, which enhances the efficiency of the traffic system, noting. The initiative supports databases, classification of bicycles, and the development of government procedures related to them and economic activities.
Abu Dhabi Transport, represented by the driver and vehicle licensing sector, revealed the number of bicycles owned by companies and bicycles owned by individuals, as statistics showed that the number of bicycles registered in the names of individuals reached 10,579 bicycles, as individuals will keep their bicycle plates in red in accordance with this initiative, while The number of bicycles registered in the names of companies and institutions reached 26,186 bicycles, and these plates will be changed to yellow, due to their use for commercial purposes.
Abu Dhabi Transport explained that customers can complete the procedures for replacing their bike plates with the new category in several cases, such as registering a new bike or transferring ownership of the bike while changing the number, and in the event of changing the number, “replace a damaged” or “replace a lost” plate.
It is noteworthy that the number of factories working on manufacturing the new category of commercial bicycle plates has reached 15 factories, distributed in various regions of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
