A project in Dubai to qualify Emirati cadres in the automotive industry


The President of Hyundai and Genesis Emirates, Sulaiman Al-Zaben, stated that work is currently underway to launch the first project to qualify and train young Emirati cadres in designing and manufacturing cars.

He told Emirates Today that the project, which is expected to be launched during the first half of next year, will be completed in Dubai through the Hyundai Motors Group, noting that the group chose the emirate to establish its first center for research and development in the automotive industry in the region, and its largest outside the markets. Al-Zaben stressed that the country’s automobile markets are witnessing an accelerating shift towards sustainable mobility, which prompted the group to launch the first models of hydrogen-powered cars, and to discuss a project to launch the first multi-purpose electric buses in Dubai.

Emirati cadres

In detail, the President of Hyundai and Genesis Emirates, Sulaiman Al-Zaben, said that Dubai was chosen to establish a project to train and qualify young Emirati cadres in the automotive design sector.

He added, “The project being implemented by the Hyundai Motors Group will aim to form Emirati cadres and expertise in the automotive design and manufacturing sector, in coordination with various educational institutions in the local markets.”

Al-Zaben explained that “the project, expected to be launched in Dubai, will be the first of its kind in the region, and includes a comprehensive center for research, development and innovation, and is considered the largest for the Hyundai Motors group in the world outside the Korean markets.”

He pointed out that “preparation for the project is currently in the final stages, following the completion of coordination processes with various local institutions, with the aim of providing qualification processes for young Emirati students and cadres in the automotive design sector, in a way that keeps pace with Dubai’s plans for development and a sustainable economy.”

He stated that “the new center that will be launched in Dubai, in addition to providing educational and training operations for Emirati cadres, will provide a comprehensive and expanded platform for innovation, research and development in the automotive industry sector.”

Smart mobility

Al-Zaben stated that “the UAE is witnessing an accelerating trend in the transition towards sustainable and smart mobility, which has emerged through various axes,” noting that “the group launched, through a joint project in Abu Dhabi, the first buses powered by hydrogen energy in line with the country’s sustainable transportation plans.”

He stated that “the group is holding discussions in Dubai to launch the first multi-purpose bus that runs on electric power, allowing it to be used in various fields of transportation,” pointing out that “the group is also holding discussions with the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai about participating in the project.” The future of (flying taxi).

Al-Zaben revealed that the group intends to launch the first small four-wheel-drive model that runs on hydrogen energy in the country’s markets during the next year, as an initiative to shift to new types of vehicles in the sustainable transportation sector in the Emirates.

He said, “The UAE is a pioneer at the regional level in adopting the transformation of electric cars, which has been demonstrated through the continuous development of advanced infrastructure for electric cars and the spread of charging stations for them in various regions of the country.”

He pointed out that electric cars witnessed a remarkable expansion in demand for them in the country’s markets during the current year, at rates that exceeded those of previous years, with the availability of new models of these vehicles and the increased awareness of their feasibility among consumers, and support for government trends to use these vehicles in its transportation fleets.

Stages of change

Al-Zaben said, “The automobile industry is gradually witnessing stages of change at the global and regional levels, most notably the increase in shares of (green) cars, which include hybrid, electric, and hydrogen vehicles in the future.”

He added that the stages of change in the industry are expected to appear more clearly during the next five years at the global levels, with the restructuring of the shares of companies producing cars at the global levels, and the emergence of entities that include the merger and alliance of different manufacturers to confront the increasing intensity of competition in the automobile industry markets.

He explained that “the increase in competitiveness and the entry of new brands and models of cars into the local markets during the recent period has a positive impact on the sector, through increased competitiveness, the availability of different alternatives, and an increase in the options, services and offers offered to consumers, through traded brands,” pointing out that “the brands that will not Keeping pace with market changes, you will be the most affected by those changes.”
