Abu Dhabi Investment Office cooperates with “Partana” in the field of climate technologies

The Abu Dhabi Investment Office announced the signing of a partnership agreement with Partana, a leading company in the field of developing innovative climate technologies and one of the emerging companies in Hub71, the global technology ecosystem in Abu Dhabi, with the aim of establishing its regional headquarters and establishing an advanced cement manufacturing facility in the emirate. This cooperation will contribute to consolidating Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading regional center in the manufacture of low-carbon building materials, thus enhancing Abu Dhabi’s efforts in the field of sustainability. The agreement was signed during the activities of the inaugural edition of Abu Dhabi Business Week.

The agreement supports Partana’s plans to reduce the carbon footprint of the global cement and concrete sector, which is worth about $400 billion and contributes to approximately 9% of global carbon dioxide emissions. Within the framework of the agreement, Partana will produce carbon credits certified by FERA, the world’s leading body in carbon offset standards, which supports efforts to reduce carbon emissions and contributes to achieving Abu Dhabi’s climate goals.

Partana has developed an innovative and applicable solution that will contribute to reshaping the concrete industry sector. The new “Partana” innovation is based on replacing cement clinker, which contains large amounts of carbon, with magnesium compounds extracted from the brine resulting from the water desalination process, to contribute to enhancing the benefit from water desalination processes by converting its products into a basic material in manufacturing. A competitive product in terms of cost, and contributing to reducing carbon emissions resulting from the cement manufacturing process.

With plans to enhance its production and expand throughout the country and abroad. Thanks to its innovative technology, Partana’s current annual production will contribute to reducing carbon emissions, by up to 798 million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, which is equivalent to the positive impact achieved by the tropical rainforests of Borneo. Badr Salim Sultan Al Olama, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, said: “Innovation is an essential pillar of economic transformation in Abu Dhabi. Through strategic partnerships with leading companies such as Partana, we emphasize that achieving economic growth does not conflict with adopting the highest standards of environmental responsibility.”
