Al-Azhar University branch in the Emirates receives students for the next academic year


The head of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Dr. Muhammad Matar Al-Kaabi, revealed the details of the opening of the Al-Azhar University branch in the Emirates, which is the university’s first branch in the world outside Egypt, explaining that “the university will begin its work in the city of Al-Ain next academic year, with three specializations, which are: Dawa, media, Islamic education, and Islamic studies in foreign languages, to witness future expansion according to the needs of Emirati society and the labor market.”

Developing religious discourse

The Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, praised the UAE’s role in serving the interests of Islam and Muslims, and the role of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and its efforts in developing religious discourse.

The Sheikhdom of Al-Azhar reported that the agreement signed between the Sheikhdom and the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments aims to establish an Azhar College of Islamic Sciences and Da’wah, enhance cooperation in the fields of Islamic affairs, and increase religious awareness and Islamic culture.

She pointed out that “the agreement includes organizing joint activities between Al-Azhar and the Islamic Affairs Authority, in addition to coordination in the field of consolidating the principles of the true religion.”

Al-Kaabi told Emirates Al-Youm: “The university will work under the umbrella of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, in coordination with the General Authority for Islamic Affairs.”

In detail, Dr. Muhammad Matar Al-Kaabi said, “Al-Azhar Al-Sharif’s methodology in moderate and scientific thought, practical practice and fatwas, producing research and studies, and graduating preachers and preachers from pulpits, meets the Authority’s ambitions for rooting and development, and following up on developments in modern life.”

He added, “The world needs to highlight the values ​​of the true religion, amidst rapid changes that are governed only by an ancient authority such as Al-Azhar and the religious institutions affiliated with it. Therefore, coordination and cooperation between these authority institutions is one of the necessities of the times.”

He explained that “the agreement that the Authority signed with the Sheikhdom of Al-Azhar, regarding the opening of the Al-Azhar University branch in the country, has already entered into force since its signing on November 25 last, and a work team has been formed to move forward in implementing the necessary requirements from the competent authorities to open the branch and receive students, with The beginning of the new academic year 2016/2017.

Al-Kaabi stressed that “the authority is working to develop its cadres and attract new generations, to provide its departments with specialists in preaching, public speaking, religious teaching, fatwas, and producing jurisprudential, intellectual, and humanitarian research and studies, among others.”

He explained that “the university branch will work under the umbrella of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, in coordination with the General Authority for Islamic Affairs,” stressing that “this branch will achieve four goals: the first is to graduate cadres and competencies in the Islamic and Arabic sciences from the most prestigious Arab universities, which is Al-Azhar University, which is characterized by the methodology of moderation, moderation, and tolerance.” She was known for her virtue and has practiced this for more than 1,000 years. The second is teaching state students at the three levels, (Bachelor’s and Master’s). And a doctorate) in Sharia specializations. The third is to encourage cultural and scientific exchange between the Islamic Affairs Authority and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and to ensure quality in the educational, educational and cultural fields. The final goal is to cooperate in loaning professors and researchers to train Emirati students and residents of the country.

He added, “The university will begin its work at the current stage with three specializations: advocacy and media, Islamic education, and Islamic studies in foreign languages, but there is no doubt that there will be future expansion, according to the needs of Emirati society and the labor market.”
