Al-Farouq Omar Bin Al-Khattab Mosque and Center in Dubai constitutes a model in promoting tolerance and shedding light on common human values, as it receives dozens of students of different nationalities residing in the country, along with dozens of tourists from countries around the world.
Recently, tourists from Europe, America, Canada and South America visited the mosque, and the mosque’s religious and cultural affairs advisor, Sheikh Dr. Fares Al-Mustafa, spoke to them about the importance of peaceful coexistence between followers of religions, human brotherhood and love.
Last week, students from GEMS Private Schools visited Al-Farouk Mosque and Center, where they learned about Islam and the message of tolerance, coexistence and peace among all human beings.
The mosque administration confirmed that tourist delegations from Russia and Germany had recently arrived at the mosque, and students from City Private School also visited it.
The mosque also received female students from the “Pakistan Educational Academy” school, where they were introduced to the most important educational commandments of Islam in the moral system, and in spreading the culture of love and tolerance among peoples.
Sheikh Fares Mustafa confirmed, during his answer to the students’ questions, that the number of worshipers on Friday is about 2,000 worshippers, pointing out that the mosque’s message is to spread love, tolerance, and a culture of brotherhood, and to focus on what is common among human beings, explaining that a Muslim cannot be like that unless he believes in all the prophets. The mosque was founded by businessman Khalaf Al Habtoor in 1988, and is supervised by the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai. It is considered one of the largest mosques in the Emirates, as it was built on an area of 8,700 square meters and can accommodate 2,000 worshippers. It also includes a prayer room for women, and an administration office. It contains 21 domes and four magnificent minarets, each with two balconies. Its design mimics the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in the Turkish city of Istanbul, known as the Blue Mosque.
The goal of establishing the mosque was determined to be a cultural and civilizational beacon, an Islamic center for human dialogue, highlighting the role of Muslims in global civilization, and confirming the greatness of Islam.
The mosque’s administration affirmed, on its website, its endeavor to share the values of Islam and build bridges between civilizations, explaining that “the center works to promote moderation, peace, harmony and tolerance.”
She stated that she had prepared various energies and capabilities to achieve the Islamic message of tolerance and love, for which mosques have long been known throughout history, as they constitute a destination for students of knowledge and those wishing for in-depth knowledge of the Islamic religion.
She said that Al-Farouq Omar bin Al-Khattab Mosque and Center has become a destination for tourists and foreigners, a tourist landmark, and an Islamic and cultural center, as crowds of tourists compete to visit it and wander within it.
A daily program has been allocated for field tours in the corridors of the mosque, implemented by a team of high-level guides. The tour lasts between 45 and 60 minutes, during which tourists and visitors learn about the tolerant teachings of Islam, and the authentic Arab customs and traditions of the Emirates, and receive information about the mosque, its history, the architectural methods that were used in its construction, and the Islamic decorations drawn and engraved on its walls, in addition to the etiquette of entering the mosque, and the concepts General role in the life of a Muslim.
