Al Jazira Club player, Argentine Ramon Merez, expressed his happiness with the qualification of “Abu Dhabi Pride” to the semi-finals of the Professional Football League Cup (Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank), stressing that the team’s victory is more important than scoring goals.
Merez told Emirates Al-Youm that Al-Jazira achieved a difficult victory over Al-Ain in the second leg of the quarter-finals, pointing out that although he was happy to score two goals against Al-Zaeem, this happiness would not have been complete unless the team qualified for the semi-finals.
He explained: “We played a difficult match against a strong team, while the match became more complicated when Al Ain scored the first goal at the beginning of the match, while we lost the first leg with an unanswered goal.”
He added: “The good thing is that the reaction of the Al-Jazira players was strong, and we scored two goals in the first half, to regain our chances of qualifying, and we added the third goal, and we were on our way to deciding the match in our favor, but we conceded a goal at a fatal time due to lack of concentration, before the kicks smiled.” The weight is ours.”
Al Jazira qualified for the semi-finals of the Professional League Cup, after overcoming Al Ain on penalties 4-2, after tying the two matches on aggregate 3-3.
Al-Jazira had lost the first leg at Al-Ain Stadium with an unanswered goal, and came back to win at home 3-2, only to resort to direct kicks, which were decided by Al-Jazira.
“Abu Dhabi Pride” will face Al Wasl in the semi-finals of the tournament.
The Argentine player stressed that Al Jazeera’s continued competition in all the tournaments in which it participates is a positive thing. He said: “It is good that we are continuing in all tournaments, as the team qualified for the quarter-finals of the President’s Cup, and we advanced to the semi-finals of the Professional Cup.”
On the other hand, he stressed that the desire of “Pride of Abu Dhabi” to compete for the two cup titles does not mean that the team is not interested in the league competition. He said: “The first leg of the league is approaching its end, and the gap has widened between Al Jazira and the teams competing for the first places, but despite that, we do not think about it this way.”
He continued: “We have three matches in the first round, and 13 matches in the second round, and anything is possible, as the most important thing is that we focus on our matches and avoid the mistakes that cost us many points in the past matches.”
Ramon Merez expressed his happiness with his first experience in the Emirates, and said: “The atmosphere is wonderful here in the winter, and in general everything is beautiful in the Emirates, and I am enjoying my life here, while at the same time the level of the league is very good, and the competition witnesses the presence of many clubs, which… “It makes it difficult to predict who will win, and all matches become difficult.”
The Argentine player concluded his statements by saying: “My job is to score goals, but when that is coupled with the team achieving victories, these goals have greater value, and I hope that the coming period will witness an improvement in Al Jazira’s results at the league level, in addition to competing for the two cup titles.”
