All our financial accounts are subject to oversight


The United Arab Emirates University confirmed that it is moving steadily towards achieving the country’s vision of development and sustainability.

She added, in response to the article by Emirates Today editor-in-chief, Sami Al Riyami, published last Thursday, that all of its financial accounts are subject to oversight through the Audit Bureau, the Ministry of Finance, and the Internal Audit Office, which submits periodic reports to the University Council and is reviewed by a committee formed by the Council. An internationally accredited external auditor/auditor shall audit the university’s accounts for requirements in accordance with the international institutional accreditation WASC.

The university indicated that it is working to become a research university in accordance with the state’s directions and strategic goals, noting the establishment of research partnerships inside and outside the country for the purposes of scientific research in areas of interest to society, such as the partnership with the Advanced Materials Laboratory at the University of California – Berkeley. The university has also established 10 centers. Specialized research, including the Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Center for Health Sciences, the Khalifa Center for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, the National Center for Space Science and Technology, and the National Water Center.

She noted the renaissance she is witnessing in the field of scientific research, both qualitatively and quantitatively

The number of research papers published in international research journals reached 1,100 scientific papers during the past year, while patents reached 115 patents during the last five years.

She confirmed that her efforts were reflected in the university’s global rankings, as it ranks first according to the “Times” classification at the country level. The university’s ranking also improved according to the QS World University Rankings from 390 in 2018 to 329 this year. It also ranked fifth in the Arab world according to the QS Rankings of Universities. This advanced global classification depends in large part on the quality of scientific research.

She explained that with regard to external funding for research, it is conditional and allocated in specific research fields that the university is committed to with the funders according to contracts and agreements signed between the university and the funders. They are provided with periodic reports to follow up on the progress of the research, and the funded research is approved by the University’s Scientific Research Council after being reviewed by external arbitrators. They are distinguished in their scientific specializations.

The university said that it is proud of the great progress it has made in terms of academic reputation at the regional and global levels, according to which it obtained international recognition from the Western Association of Universities (WASC), which confirms that it is moving steadily towards achieving the country’s vision of development and sustainability.


The UAE University published 1,100 scientific papers in international journals last year.
