Australian broadcaster Tony Jones apologized to Novak Djokovic and the Serbian player’s fans for the comments he made last Friday, which the 10-time Australian Open tennis champion considered “insulting and offensive.”

Djokovic refused to give the usual on-court interview after his fourth-round victory over Czech Jiri Lehiczka the day before yesterday, awaiting a public apology from Jones and the Australian Channel 9, which owns the rights to broadcast the major tournament.

Jones had mocked Djokovic and the Serbian fans, saying that the 24-time Grand Slam champion “is overrated and has become a thing of the past.”

Yesterday, Jones said, “The comments were just a joke. I offer my apologies to Djokovic.”
