Artificial intelligence reveals red palm weevil


A technical expert engineer at the Platform Company in the Emirates, Mohamed Abdel Rahman Khalil, confirmed that he reached a new innovation capable of early detection of red palm weevil using artificial intelligence technology and Internet of Things technology.

The researcher, Dr. Abdullah Al -Saadi, from the University of Sultan Qaboos in Oman, presented a scientific paper entitled “An analysis using the small successive”, revealing the high rate of innate diversity, and the presence of new innate diseases in the palm trees, presented in partnership with Dr. Hamid Al -Nadabi and Dr. Ibrahim Al -Amri .

He explained that the soil of farms with wilt symptoms have higher levels of fungal pathogens, which indicates that the imbalance in the micro -soils can lead to the formation of fungal pathogens that lead to palm trees with diseases, pointing out that there are variations in fungal races between the roots of palm trees And its stems and leaves, indicating that each part of the palm trees is affected by the causes of various fungal diseases.

This came during the sixth international conference of date palm, which concluded its activities yesterday, with distinguished posts by bodies, researchers and date palm experts around the world.

Khalil noted, the development of his company for Emirati innovation, which won the Khalifa International Prize for Dates and Agricultural Innovation in its tenth session 2018, for the category of leading and distinguished innovations in the agricultural sector.

He added that «Platform» has harnessed the technology of the Internet of Things with a few energy consumption to transfer palm data, after receiving it through specially developed sensors that came after lengthy research and studies in cooperation with specialists from agricultural research universities and a number of experts in several fields, in addition to conducting tests in palm farms in my area Liwa in Abu Dhabi and palm plantations in Ras Al Khaimah.

He continued that the company volunteered artificial intelligence to make it able to predict the presence of red palm weevil in palm trees at an early stage, and to send alerts to the farmer through a dedicated application on the phone, to guide the farms in the places of infected palm trees.

Khalil explained that the company aims to use information and data to build a geographical database for the activity of the red palm weevil through a wide geographical area, whether in the Emirates or the Arab region, with the aim of helping ministries, authorities and bodies concerned with governments to control typical and effective in combating red palm weevils, to improve the fight against this scourge, Providing effort and money, and confronting it effectively.

He pointed out that the company recorded a patent in the follow -up style, pointing out that “Platform” aspires to work with the relevant authorities inside the Emirates to support and spread the experience, to be the first country to fight palm weevil using the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence, which is part of its government strategies.
