Bahrain and Egypt condemn Iranian attacks, call for enforcement of UNSC 2817

Bahrain and Egypt Leaders Condemn Iranian Attacks on Bahrain in Manama Meeting

Bahrain and Egypt leaders meet in Manama to condemn Iranian attacks on Bahrain and call for regional cooperation to protect maritime routes and state sovereignty.

King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met in Manama on July 14, 2026, to discuss regional and international developments, with a central focus on the recent Iranian attacks on Bahrain, Bahrain’s official news agency reported. The leaders exchanged views on the security and stability of the Gulf region and reaffirmed shared concerns about threats to sovereignty and international law. Both officials emphasized the importance of collective measures to address cross-border hostilities and to prevent further escalation.

Leaders’ meeting in Manama

King Hamad and President El-Sisi held talks at the Bahraini capital aimed at coordinating responses to recent regional incidents. The meeting, described by Bahrain’s news agency, covered developments in the region and their implications for security and stability. Both leaders agreed to maintain close consultation amid what they characterized as heightened regional tensions.

The two sides stressed readiness to continue communication on issues affecting the Gulf and neighbouring states. They underlined the need for diplomatic and practical coordination among partners to reduce risks and ensure regional resilience against further provocations.

Egypt reiterates condemnation of Iranian attacks on Bahrain

President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s strong condemnation of the Iranian attacks on Bahraini territory, calling them violations of sovereignty and international norms. Egyptian statements framed the incidents as a direct threat to regional peace and a breach of established rules governing state conduct. Cairo’s position, as conveyed during the talks, included an explicit denunciation of the attacks and support for Bahrain’s right to defend its territory.

Both leaders described the attacks as unacceptable and emphasized the need for clear international responses. They highlighted that allowing such actions to go unchecked would undermine the security architecture and encourage further destabilising behaviour.

Reference to UN Security Council Resolution 2817

King Hamad and President El-Sisi explicitly referenced United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 during their discussions. The resolution, they said, condemns the attacks and demands an immediate cessation of strikes originating from Iran against Gulf countries and Jordan. The leaders pointed to the resolution’s affirmation of the right of Gulf Cooperation Council states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to defend themselves against such aggression.

They urged the international community to uphold and implement the resolution’s provisions fully. In their view, adherence to UN decisions is essential to de-escalate tensions and to restore predictability to regional security dynamics.

Maritime security and the Strait of Hormuz concerns

A central topic of the meeting was the potential disruption of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, which both leaders said amounts to an international concern. They warned that any attempt to impede freedom of navigation in this strategic waterway would contravene international maritime law and threaten global energy and trade flows. The two officials called for cooperative steps to safeguard shipping lanes and to ensure uninterrupted commerce through the Gulf.

Both parties emphasized that the protection of maritime corridors is a shared international responsibility that requires coordination between regional states and global partners. They also stressed that unilateral actions to intimidate or block passage in the Strait would exacerbate tensions and risk broader conflict.

Calls for continued consultation and collective defence

King Hamad and President El-Sisi agreed on the necessity of continued consultations and enhanced coordination among partner states. They underscored the legitimacy of defensive measures by Gulf states and Jordan in response to the attacks, while urging that responses remain measured and anchored in international law. The leaders called for unity among regional nations to present a coherent stance against acts that threaten state sovereignty.

They also discussed diplomatic and security mechanisms to prevent escalation and to promote stability. Both delegations committed to sharing information and maintaining regular high-level dialogue to address unfolding threats.

Leaders signalled their openness to multilateral engagement and to aligning regional responses with broader international efforts. They indicated that Bahrain and Egypt would pursue contact with relevant partners and institutions to ensure a robust and lawful response to aggression.

The Manama meeting concluded with a mutual pledge to keep lines of communication open and to coordinate policy measures in the coming days. Both Bahrain and Egypt presented their position as part of a wider push for stability and for the reinforcement of norms protecting sovereignty, maritime freedom, and international order.
