Bahrain rejects Iran comments, calls Tehran’s statements a ‘blatant intervention’
Bahrain rejects Iran comments, with Manama condemning recent statements from Tehran as an unacceptable intervention that breaches sovereignty and risks regional stability.
Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry issues formal protest
The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a formal rejection of remarks made by the spokesman of Iran’s foreign ministry, describing them as a direct and unwarranted interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs. The ministry said the statements undermine basic principles of state sovereignty and run counter to established norms of international relations.
The ministry also asserted that the Iranian allegations lack credibility and mischaracterise Bahrain’s legitimate legal and security measures. Bahraini officials framed the remarks as politicisation of judicial and sovereign actions, warning that such misrepresentations deliberately distort facts.
Government calls portrayal of legal measures ‘politicised’
Bahrain rejected claims that its courtroom and security procedures amount to human rights violations, saying the portrayal is a politicised narrative that does not reflect the actual legal processes. The foreign ministry emphasised that sovereign decisions taken by national institutions fall within Bahrain’s right to enforce its laws.
Officials argued that framing domestic legal matters as international human rights breaches constitutes deliberate misinformation designed to inflame public opinion. The statement urged international observers to consider established legal records and procedural safeguards before accepting politicised allegations.
Manama highlights decades of concerning behaviour
The ministry said it has monitored what it called a pattern of behaviour by Iran over several decades, which it described as recurring interference in the internal affairs of neighbouring states. Bahrain asserted that this conduct, when repeated, erodes trust and complicates diplomatic relations across the region.
In making that point, Manama stressed that such actions not only affect bilateral ties but also have wider implications for Gulf security. The foreign ministry warned that sustained interference undermines regional stability and heightens tensions that could have broader consequences for security cooperation.
Appeal for adherence to the UN Charter and non‑interference
Bahrain reiterated its call for Iran to respect the principles of the United Nations Charter, including non‑interference in the domestic affairs of sovereign states. The ministry urged Tehran to halt what it characterised as escalating rhetoric and irresponsible public statements that jeopardise neighbourly relations.
Bahrain also encouraged constructive engagement through diplomatic channels and adherence to customary international law, rather than public denunciations that risk escalating disputes. The statement framed diplomatic negotiation and legal mechanisms as the appropriate route for resolving bilateral concerns.
Regional stability and legal norms at stake
Bahrain warned that repeated external interventions threaten the security and stability of countries across the Gulf, undermining efforts at cooperation and mutual respect. The foreign ministry stressed that violating sovereignty is a breach of international law and damages prospects for regional dialogue.
Manama called on regional and international partners to support norms that protect state sovereignty and to resist politicised narratives that could inflame tensions. The ministry expressed willingness to engage with partners to safeguard stability and promote adherence to agreed legal standards.
Bahrain reaffirmed its commitment to defending sovereignty and legal order while urging Iran to cease statements and policies that Manama regards as provocative, and to pursue diplomatic solutions consistent with international law and mutual respect.
