The first Emirates Chess Federation tournaments will begin today, with the holding of the Emirates Individual Blitz Chess Championships for boys and girls under 16 years of age, and the open category and women’s category, which are organized by the Federation in cooperation with the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club.
160 male and female players participate in the two tournaments, representing 14 teams from various clubs in the country.
The head of the federation’s women’s committee, Kholoud Al-Zarouni, confirmed that the start of the season by holding these two tournaments reflects a strong start to a busy sporting season, as the federation’s agenda includes 15 local tournaments.
She added that the current season is witnessing the launch of new tournaments for the first time, most notably the Elite Championship, which is an individual tournament open to all nationalities, and the Excellence Cup for juniors under 16 years of age, which also allows the participation of players of different nationalities.
The tournament’s arbitration committee is headed by international referee Salman Al-Taher, with the assistance of International Federation referee Majed Al-Abdouli.
