DEWA Global seeks Greek energy partnerships to power data centers and grids

DEWA Global pursues clean‑energy and data‑centre power partnerships in Athens

DEWA Global delegation led by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer met PPC and Mytilineos in Athens to advance clean energy, data‑centre power and grid infrastructure ties.

DEWA Global delegation meets Greek power leaders in Athens

A high‑level DEWA Global delegation, led by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, visited Athens to hold strategic talks with Greece’s Public Power Corporation (PPC) and Mytilineos.
The meetings focused on strengthening collaboration across power generation, grid infrastructure and the growing electricity needs of data centres.
DEWA Global said the visit aims to export Dubai’s operational model and technical expertise to support energy projects in Greece and beyond.

Discussions centre on data‑centre demand and grid resilience

Delegates examined the emerging demand profile from hyperscale data‑centre developments and the grid upgrades required to serve them reliably.
Talks covered coordination on power supply, network planning and investments to ensure secure, high‑quality electricity for data‑intensive facilities.
DEWA Global representatives highlighted opportunities where Dubai’s experience in grid augmentation and smart distribution could be applied to Greek projects.

Operations, maintenance and asset governance on the agenda

A significant portion of the agenda addressed operating models, maintenance practices and governance frameworks for energy assets.
Al Tayer and his team presented DEWA Global’s capabilities in operations and maintenance, arguing they can add value to lifecycle management of generation and network assets.
Officials discussed joint approaches to performance benchmarking, digital monitoring and workforce training to lift operational standards.

Dubai’s clean energy transition and technology showcase

During the meetings, DEWA Global outlined Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s global achievements and performance rankings across key operational indicators.
The delegation described the role of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park as the backbone of Dubai’s shift to cleaner energy, and noted that clean sources already contribute a growing share of the emirate’s energy mix.
Officials highlighted advanced technologies being deployed in Dubai projects, including photovoltaic and concentrated solar power systems, large‑scale battery storage and early hydrogen integration.

Hatta pumped‑storage project presented as Gulf first

Al Tayer showcased DEWA’s pumped‑storage hydropower facility in Hatta, underlining its 250 MW generation capacity and 1,500 MWh storage as a regional first.
The Hatta scheme was positioned as a model for seasonal and diurnal balancing that complements intermittent renewables and strengthens grid flexibility.
Delegates explored how pumped storage and other long‑duration options could be replicated or adapted within Greece’s mountainous terrain and island networks.

Record achievements and future targets highlighted

DEWA Global reiterated that the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park has set multiple world records for concentrated solar power capacity, tower height and thermal storage duration.
The delegation said Dubai’s clean energy share has grown substantially and is targeted to rise further by 2030 as part of a long‑term decarbonisation roadmap.
Al Tayer framed these achievements as evidence of the technical and managerial experience DEWA Global brings to international partnerships.

Next steps and potential project pipeline

Both sides agreed to pursue more detailed feasibility studies and to identify pilot projects where DEWA Global expertise could be applied.
Participants signalled interest in joint development on renewable generation, grid modernisation, energy storage and services supporting data‑centre electrification.
Senior DEWA executives accompanying Al Tayer included the deputy executive presidents for business development and for innovation, underscoring the authority’s technical depth and project delivery capacity.

The Athens meetings mark an early phase of a broader outreach by DEWA Global to position Dubai’s utilities expertise on the international stage, with an emphasis on replicable technologies and governance models that support decarbonisation and secure energy supply.
