DP World expands GCC land‑freight fleet with 700 new trucks to boost capacity
DP World adds 700 trucks to its GCC land-freight network, boosting capacity by up to 35,000 trips monthly to improve reliability, speed, door-to-door service.
DP World has taken delivery of 700 new heavy trucks to expand its land‑freight operations across the Gulf Cooperation Council, the company said on Friday. The investment is designed to increase the operator’s cross‑border and domestic haulage capacity and provide customers with faster, more reliable movement of containerised and non‑containerised cargo. DP World expects the additional vehicles to support existing logistics links between ports, free zones and inland facilities across the region.
Fleet expansion details and strategic aims
DP World said the new addition is part of a long‑term strategy to develop an integrated logistics network that links ports, container terminals, economic zones and digital platforms. The trucks will be phased into operations to complement the operator’s current road fleet and intermodal services. Company executives described the move as a direct response to growing demand for dependable land transport solutions among shippers and supply chain partners in the GCC.
Capacity increase: up to 35,000 extra truck trips per month
According to DP World, the expanded fleet will enable up to 35,000 additional truck trips each month, enhancing both intra‑GCC and cross‑border movements. That uplift is intended to cover early, middle and final mile segments of supply chains and to support shipments ranging from standard containers to vehicles and temperature‑sensitive goods. The operator said the extra trips will reduce congestion on existing routes and improve scheduling predictability for customers.
Integration with an already high‑volume road network
The new trucks will be integrated into an established network that currently handles roughly 3,000 truck movements daily across the region. DP World indicated the vehicles will be deployed gradually so they can be coordinated with terminal operations, inland depots and customs procedures. The staged rollout aims to preserve service continuity while expanding capacity and to allow operational teams to optimise routing and turnaround times.
Fuel efficiency, emissions standard and greener options
DP World highlighted that the newly acquired trucks meet Euro 5 emissions standards and feature improved fuel efficiency over older models. The company said it is also researching alternative powertrain options and fuels to further reduce the carbon intensity of its road fleet in future phases. Executives framed the fleet upgrade as part of a dual objective: to improve commercial performance while moving incrementally toward lower‑emission transport solutions.
Recent corridor developments and alternate sea‑land routes
The truck order follows a series of recent logistics initiatives by DP World to diversify regional routes and relieve pressure from maritime disruptions. In the past months the operator has established faster customs corridors linking eastern coastal gateways to Jebel Ali, opened a customs lane from Sohar in Oman, and used south Red Sea and Jeddah container gateways to reroute shipments. Those measures, combined with the truck expansion, were credited with enabling the overland movement of more than 350,000 standard 20‑foot equivalent units after earlier shipping disturbances.
Customer impact: faster door‑to‑door and time‑sensitive transit
For shippers, the combined improvements are expected to expand door‑to‑door options and better serve time‑sensitive consignments such as perishables and automotive shipments. DP World executives said the broader, faster road network will allow customers greater flexibility in choosing routes and service levels. The company also stressed that a more resilient land‑freight capability helps mitigate the effects of maritime delays and supports continuity of supply across the GCC.
The incremental deployment of 700 trucks is intended to complement DP World’s broader portfolio of ports, terminals and logistics assets in the Gulf, enabling the operator to offer more integrated, end‑to‑end solutions. As the vehicles enter service, DP World will monitor utilisation and customer feedback to inform further fleet investments and sustainable transport options.
