DP World currently operates 10 economic and logistics zones covering an area of approximately 8,841 hectares, while the number of zones still under development within its global business portfolio covering an area of 640 hectares, which are expected to enter service in the coming years.
According to a document issued by the group, a copy of which was obtained by “Emirates Today”, DP World added a new area to its portfolio during the current year: the free zone in “Chennai” in India, increasing its number from nine areas on an area of 8,790 hectares to 10 areas on an area of 8,841 hectares.
Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) is DP World’s flagship free zone, covering 5,700 hectares. It is one of the world’s leading free trade zones, established in 1985 to boost trade and support container handling volumes at Jebel Ali Port. Today, it is one of the largest free zones in the world and the most efficient logistics hub in the region. Its unique location between Jebel Ali Port and Al Maktoum International Airport provides Jafza with the best multi-modal connectivity.
DP World’s National Industries Park (NIP) spans 2,100 hectares of prime, business-friendly land in the heart of Dubai’s new industrial zone. The park offers plots, warehouses and prime office space, close to Jebel Ali Port, Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) and Al Maktoum International Airport, enabling seamless connectivity across the supply chain for companies operating within it.
In addition to Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) and National Industries Park, DP World operates eight economic and logistics zones in international markets: the 535-hectare South Carolina Gateway Logistics Park, the 120-hectare Caucedo Logistics Centre in the Dominican Republic, and the 108-hectare Posorja Terminal in Ecuador.
Other economic and logistics zones include: London Gateway in the United Kingdom, the economic zone in Djibouti and Berbera, in addition to the logistics zone in Kigali in Rwanda, and the free trade zone in Mumbai in India.
The four projects still under development include: the economic zone in Dakar, Senegal, covering an area of approximately 600 hectares; the economic zone in Sokhna Port in Egypt; the logistics zone for Jeddah Port in Saudi Arabia; and the free zone in Cochin, India, covering an area of approximately five hectares.
