DP World opens first integrated distribution centre in Egypt

DP World today inaugurated its first integrated distribution centre in Egypt, a major step in expanding the company’s regional logistics footprint. The DP World distribution centre in Egypt is located within Sokhna Logistic Park and aims to serve local, regional and international markets from a single hub. The opening was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, senior government officials and DP World leadership, reflecting high-level support for the project.

Sokhna Logistic Park location and connectivity

The new facility sits adjacent to the Port of Sokhna inside the Suez Canal Economic Zone, giving tenants immediate access to one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors. Proximity to the port and major trade routes offers businesses reduced transit times and streamlined links between Asia, Africa and Europe. The site’s strategic position is intended to cut inland transit and customs delays for companies serving multiple export markets.

Integrated services offered at the new centre

DP World’s centre combines international freight forwarding, port services at Sokhna, bonded warehousing and inventory management under one roof. The hub also provides order fulfilment, customs facilitation and transport coordination, plus value-added services such as packaging, repackaging, labelling and product customisation. This integrated model allows companies to retain ownership of stock until final distribution while centralising logistics operations to improve speed and transparency.

Three international clients sign on at launch

At the opening ceremony DP World signed agreements with three early anchor tenants representing diverse sectors and geographies. A leading Kenyan tea exporter committed to using the centre as a regional stock hub to serve African, Middle Eastern and European customers, consolidating roughly 1,000 standard containers a year via the facility. A major global fast-moving consumer goods distributor agreed to operate temperature-controlled storage to serve eight markets across the Gulf, Levant and East Africa from the Sokhna site.

Technology and industrial client commitments

A German multinational specialising in fibre-optic cable and digital infrastructure opted to use the centre to strengthen its distribution and re-export capacity across Egypt, North Africa and the GCC. These commitments underline the centre’s appeal to manufacturers, exporters and distributors that require a combination of secure storage, customs efficiency and rapid onward shipment. DP World said the variety of early tenants demonstrates the centre’s flexibility for different cargo types and supply chain models.

Investment scale and government backing

DP World has invested more than $1.4 billion in Egypt to date, including upgrades to Port of Sokhna and development of Sokhna Logistic Park, with further cold-chain infrastructure under construction. Company leaders framed the new distribution centre as part of a broader strategy to bolster Egypt’s role as a regional trade and logistics hub. Officials from the Egyptian government were present at the launch and expressed support for the project’s potential to attract foreign investment and expand industrial capacity.

Supply chain improvements and local industry support

By locating inventory closer to end customers and manufacturing bases, the centre is designed to reduce lead times and enhance supply chain resilience for both multinational and local firms. Shorter delivery windows and more reliable access to raw materials and components should support local manufacturers and exporters. DP World representatives also highlighted the potential for the facility to facilitate export-oriented industrial growth and to improve the competitiveness of Egyptian businesses in regional markets.

Operational benefits and next steps for expansion

DP World said tenants will benefit from single-point coordination of port, warehousing and distribution services, enabling simpler inventory management and faster order fulfilment. The company indicated plans to scale services and expand capacity in line with demand, including additional cold-chain facilities currently under development. This phased approach aims to match infrastructure growth with the requirements of exporters, retailers and industrial customers across multiple sectors.

The launch of the Sokhna distribution centre marks a notable milestone in Egypt’s logistics development, offering a consolidated logistics solution for companies targeting local, regional and global markets. The facility’s combination of port adjacency, integrated services and early multinational clients positions it as a strategic node in trade flows linking Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
