Dubai is preparing to receive “clean energy” from “Haza” next April

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority “Diwa”, Saeed Mohammed Al -Tayer, announced that the electrical station with the stored water energy technology implemented by the authority in “Hatta” will start exporting clean energy gradually and for the first time to Dubai during the month of April of this year 2025, adding that The initial tests of the first unit of the clean power plant started during the month of January.

This came during the visit of the fly of the project, which is the first of its kind in the Arab Gulf region, where the completion rate reached 96.82%.

Electricity generation

According to “Dua”, the project aims to generate electricity by taking advantage of the water stored in the “Hatta Dam”, and a new upper dam that was created in the mountainous region.

The productive capacity of the station will reach 250 megawatts, and its storage capacity reaches 1,500 megawatts, and a life life of up to 80 years, in the value of the investment in the project about 1.42 billion dirhams.

Al -Tayer said: “The project comes to achieve the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God bless him, to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development throughout the Emirate of Dubai, and supports (Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050), (The carbon neutrality strategy 2050 for the Emirate of Dubai) with the aim of providing 100% of the total energy production capacity in Dubai from clean energy sources by general 2050 ».

Al -Tayer pointed out that «the electrical station project in (Hatta) comes within the projects and initiatives of the authority to diversify the sources of renewable and clean energy production in Dubai, which include various available technologies, including photovoltaic panels and concentrated solar energy, storing energy with batteries, and producing green hydrogen using energy Renewed ».

Al -Tayer listened to explanations about the construction works, as the installation of generators on the site was finally completed, in what is being currently being completed preparations and tests in preparation for the experimental operations of the station during the first quarter of 2025.

Station mechanism

The visit included the Al -Sadd Al -Alawi area, which consists of a head of 72 meters high, and a side dam with a height of 37 meters, after completing the process of filling the dam in preparation for the experimental operation.

The station relies on the water stored in the “Hatta Dam” and a new upper dam, where the water will be pumped using sophisticated turbines based on clean energy from the “Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Complex”.

These turbines operate in reverse water pumping into the upper dam to store energy, and then use it to generate electricity through the flow of water from the upper dam to the “Hatta Dam” through a 1.2 km underground water tunnel.

The efficiency of the electricity production and storage system will reach 78.9%, with an immediate response to the request within 90 seconds.
