Dubai Open Volleyball Academies Championship launches April 25

The Dubai Open Volleyball Academies Championship opens on April 25, 2026, marking the region’s first tournament of its type. The event runs through June 13, 2026, and brings together youth teams from across the UAE in a multi-week competitive schedule.

Organised by the Dubai Sports Council in cooperation with the UAE Volleyball Federation and Sports Mania, the championship aims to create a sustained calendar of matches for developing players. Officials say the tournament is intended to raise standards by mirroring international match volumes and competition formats.

Five age categories and more than 250 matches scheduled

The competition spans five age groups for both boys and girls: under-10, under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-19. Across those divisions more than 250 matches are scheduled, offering teams repeated competitive exposure through the two-month programme.

Planned fixtures will test depth and endurance, with multiple matches per team anticipated during the course of the championship. Tournament organisers have emphasised match quantity and quality as key to accelerating skill development among emerging players.

Shabab Al Ahli and Al Safa to host the fixtures

Matches will be played at the Shabab Al Ahli Club indoor courts and the Al Safa Sports Hall in the Jumeirah district. Both venues have been selected for their capacity to stage consecutive fixtures and support the logistical demands of a nationwide youth tournament.

Organisers say the choice of venues reflects a need for reliable indoor facilities that meet competition standards and allow simultaneous scheduling. Venue staff and club officials have been involved in technical planning to ensure smooth daily operations during the championship.

Dubai Sports Council frames event as a talent pipeline

Ali Omar Al Baloushi, Director of Sports Development at the Dubai Sports Council, described the championship as a deliberate step in the emirate’s talent-development strategy. He said the Council is focused on building an integrated system to attract promising athletes and provide a platform for consistent competitive practice.

Al Baloushi added that the event complements an existing series of Dubai Open tournaments across multiple sports, reinforcing a long-term plan to expand opportunities at grassroots and academy levels. The council intends the volleyball championship to contribute directly to club development programmes and national talent identification efforts.

Public-private partnership with Sports Mania and federation support

The championship is staged in partnership with Sports Mania and under the auspices of the UAE Volleyball Federation, reflecting a public-private model for youth sports delivery. Tariq Abboud, Managing Director of Sports Mania, praised the collaboration and highlighted the high turnout at the tournament’s technical meeting as evidence of strong club engagement.

Officials noted that cooperative organising reduces delivery costs and increases event reach by combining government oversight with private-sector operational capacity. The federation’s involvement ensures that competition rules and age verification follow national standards, reinforcing the championships’ credibility.

National clubs and academies fielding teams across divisions

Seventy teams from 25 academies and clubs will compete, representing a cross-section of the country’s volleyball ecosystem. Participating clubs include Al Wasl, Shabab Al Ahli, Al Nasr, Hatta and Al Dhaid, alongside academies and private programmes such as Wildcats, UIG Sports, FDR, Centrix and Next Gen.

Also entered are specialist volleyball groups including Hec Volleyball, Spikers Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Volleyball Clinic, as well as multi-sport academies like Al Mawakeb and Olympic Stars. Organisers say the mix of established clubs and independent academies will raise the competitive standard and broaden scouting opportunities.

The technical meeting attended by coaches and team managers confirmed fixtures and operational protocols, and reflected a high level of preparation by participating organisations. Tournament administrators emphasised adherence to match schedules, player welfare standards and officiating guidelines.

This tournament is expected to provide a concentrated window for talent scouts and club development officers to evaluate players across repeated high-quality matches. Organisers plan to use performance data and match observations to inform subsequent training programmes and identify candidates for further development pathways.

The Dubai Open Volleyball Academies Championship is positioned as an important addition to the emirate’s youth-sports calendar, combining scale, structure and multi-stakeholder cooperation. With its April 25 start and June 13 conclusion, the event offers a sustained competitive environment intended to accelerate player progression and strengthen the country’s volleyball pipeline.
