Dubai Roads and Transport Authority launches academic scholarship initiative for 15 students born on 9/9/2009


The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has launched a scholarship to send 15 male and female Emirati students, born on 9/9/2009, the date that witnessed the start of the Dubai Metro operation fifteen years ago.

This initiative comes within the framework of the “Dubai Social Agenda 33”, embodying the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, to invest in people and work to find all alternatives that ensure the success of real and sustainable development.

Learning Journey

The Roads and Transport Authority has developed an integrated program for scholarship students, which includes three stages. The first is during the academic stage and lasts for two years. It includes a practical training program for students at the Authority during the summer and winter vacations, participation in basic training programs in the field of trains with strategic partners, and field visits to work sites in train projects. The second stage is the university study period, which extends from four to five years, during which the student receives a scholarship to obtain a bachelor’s degree in one of the engineering specializations in the field of trains. It also includes a training program at the Authority during the summer and winter vacations, participation in leadership forums and important events organized by the Authority, in addition to field visits to work sites in train projects.

In the third stage, graduates get a job at the Rail Agency, and join the Fast Track Engineers Program to prepare them technically and administratively over a period of two years. Participants get opportunities for rapid development and promotion through a promising career path, to be the next generation of specialists at the Roads and Transport Authority. Participants also get accredited professional certificates in the fields of project management and value engineering, in addition to a package of technical and specialized training.

National competencies

On this occasion, HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), stressed the RTA’s keenness to prepare young national cadres. The RTA, through the initiative programme, will contribute to preparing them in a manner that is in line with Dubai’s aspirations for the future of the roads and transport sector and keeps pace with global developments in this field. This coincides with the anniversary of the opening of a strategic project that contributed to achieving a qualitative leap that consolidated Dubai’s leadership in the field of future environmentally friendly mobility solutions at the regional level.

His Excellency said: “The Roads and Transport Authority is keen to build and empower young national competencies, and provide an ideal environment to support citizens and develop young leaders to be able to anticipate the future and innovate the necessary tools to lead the next stage, and contribute to driving the wheel of growth and development of the Authority’s work agenda for the current and future period.”

The Roads and Transport Authority provides a suitable environment for career advancement, and allows young national talents to assume important leadership positions to participate in its journey to achieve the ambitious vision and strategic objectives of the Authority. The Authority devotes its efforts to be the first career choice for qualified human resources, by attracting national talents with high professional skills, building a comprehensive system to motivate and retain employees, and paying attention to developing and enhancing employees’ capabilities scientifically and practically.

It is noteworthy that the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has recently launched the (Engineers Path) initiative, the first of its kind in the UAE, which includes providing a path for specialized jobs in the field of engineering, keeping pace with the requirements of the labor market, and achieving job stability for engineers. It also launched the Promising Engineer (Fast Track) initiative.

To attract a select group of national engineers who are university graduates with distinguished academic qualifications, and prepare them technically and administratively, to be the next generation of specialists in the Roads and Transport Authority.
