Dubai Roads launches the “Share Me” application


The Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Mattar Al Tayer, launched the smart application (Sharekni), which allows individuals to share a single vehicle in transportation to and from work locations, as through the application they can register their data to carry out their trips by sharing a single vehicle. The permit is extracted electronically, and the application is currently available in Arabic and English, and Chinese, Filipino, and Urdu will be added in the coming period.

Al Tayer said: “The launch of the (Share Me) application comes in implementation of the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world and achieve happiness for people. It also comes in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed. Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council supervising the Smart City Initiative.

He added that the authority aims through this service to contribute to alleviating traffic congestion in the emirate, especially at peak times, and to reduce the number of vehicles occupied by one person, and to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads in general, which reduces the total kilometers traveled, and thus the economic cost of operating vehicles. Contributing to better organizing vehicle parking around workplaces, alleviating the problem of their insufficient availability, as well as contributing to reducing the percentage of pollution and fuel consumption resulting from the increase in the number of vehicles, and reducing the psychological and physical stress resulting from driving in traffic. Traffic, which contributes to increasing employee productivity and quality, in addition to encouraging social ties in the community, by introducing the participating people to each other.

Al Tayer confirmed that the service that the Authority launched in July 2008 witnessed a continuous growth in the number of registrants, and the growth rate last year reached approximately 16%, and he expected it to achieve a big leap in the coming period, as the Authority set special incentives and rewards for users of the service, pointing out that Studies and global standard comparisons of vehicle sharing systems show that the percentage of users of this service ranges between five and 15% of road network users, and this percentage increases when a system of incentives and rewards is developed to reach 30% of the total road network users.

He added: “The website www.sharekni.ae was developed, and the smart application was designed with great care to facilitate its use by various segments of society. The steps for registering in the system, communicating with customers via SMS and e-mail, and allowing drivers holding driving licenses issued by Different emirates of the country register in the system, as the system was previously limited to holders of licenses issued by the Emirate of Dubai only,” indicating that the new website allows customers the feature of searching for the vehicle, according to varying standards to codify the search and assist It enables the passenger to reach his goals, as well as saving search mechanisms for later use, saving time for the user, as well as displaying passengers and drivers through the map, and adding a control panel that allows the user to update and display his flight schedule information and personal data. As for the smart application, it allows customers the regular search feature, Searching through maps, the application includes data on the vehicle and the specific route, through which one can know the best-rated driver and the most frequently used routes.
