Emirates launches Comprehensive Travel Insurance with conflict-related medical cover and rebooking guarantees
Emirates launches Comprehensive Travel Insurance with conflict-related medical cover, hotel support, free rebooking on other carriers and global evacuation.
Emirates has introduced a new Emirates Comprehensive Travel Insurance product that expands protection for passengers amid rising demand for broader travel safeguards. The offering combines extended medical cover, support services for operational disruptions and guaranteed rebooking options to help travellers complete journeys. The carrier says the package is designed to give passengers greater confidence from booking through arrival.
Emirates introduces the new product
Emirates is positioning the Comprehensive Travel Insurance as the first integrated travel insurance product offered directly by a global airline. The programme bundles enhanced insurance benefits with the airline’s own operational support, marking a shift toward a combined insurance-and-service model.
The product is underpinned by a partnership with Travel Guard, a global travel-insurance provider, and is available for purchase at the time of booking or added to existing reservations via the airline’s manage booking service. Emirates says the pricing is competitive and intended to deliver strong value for passengers.
Conflict-related medical cover and trip extensions
A notable feature of the new programme is explicit coverage for medical expenses arising from incidents linked to conflicts. The policy offers specific compensation for such events up to US$25,000, and allows affected travellers to extend their trips for up to 30 days without incurring additional fees where needed.
Emirates has also clarified that this conflict-related coverage will not be conditional on government travel advisories or warnings, widening the scope of protection for travellers who face medical needs during unforeseen unrest. The airline says this was added in response to customer feedback seeking more comprehensive protection.
Rebooking guarantees and operational support
Emirates will continue to carry passengers to their final destinations even when the carrier itself is not operating an onward sector, by rebooking them on alternative flights at no extra charge. That guarantee applies when the airline cannot provide a continuing service or when itineraries include other carriers.
The airline also commits to arranging hotel accommodation and on-the-ground assistance during operational disruptions such as delays, cancellations or airspace closures. These support services are managed directly by Emirates alongside the insurance protections, aiming to reduce the logistical and financial burdens on travellers during interruptions.
Medical, baggage and emergency evacuation protections
Beyond conflict-related incidents, the Comprehensive Travel Insurance includes a broad suite of travel protections such as compensation for trip cancellations, delayed or lost luggage, and medical evacuation. The policy provides worldwide emergency medical evacuation and, in many cases, unlimited medical expense cover for non-conflict incidents as part of the global protection package.
Emirates stresses that these elements are intended to complement standard travel benefits and emergency services available to passengers, consolidating assistance into a single offering that can be purchased with a booking or attached later.
Availability, purchase channels and eligible markets
The programme is being rolled out across a wide range of markets, currently including Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kuwait, Malta, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. Emirates says the list reflects initial launch markets and may expand over time.
Customers can buy the coverage when they make a new reservation on the Emirates website or add it to existing bookings through the manage booking tool. The airline indicates the option will appear during the booking flow and can be selected alongside other ancillary services.
Statements from Emirates and Travel Guard
Sir Tim Clark, president of Emirates, said the new product responds to clear customer demand for broader and more flexible travel protection. He framed the launch as part of Emirates’ ongoing efforts to enhance the passenger experience and provide greater certainty as travellers plan trips to, from and via Dubai.
Russell Antonio, head of global business and partnerships at Travel Guard, described the collaboration as leveraging the strengths of both organisations to elevate protection standards in the travel sector. He said the partnership aims to deliver a “step change” in coverage and operational support for modern travellers.
Emirates also highlighted existing customer-focused measures that remain in place, such as the ability to change travel dates without fees on eligible tickets booked from April 2, and a 24-hour free price-hold service at the time of booking. The airline says those features, combined with the new insurance product, will give passengers added flexibility and reassurance.
The new Comprehensive Travel Insurance is presented as an integrated solution blending insurance cover and airline-managed support, available now in the listed markets and intended to be expanded as demand and operational considerations evolve.
