The desire to understand human behavior, the diversity of people, and the different natures, customs and reactions of their actions led, a university professor who has been working for a period of no more than two months, a taxi driver.

Dr. Ammar Shams, who held leadership positions in a number of companies and banks, decided to take place in his new experience, which he considers the most exciting and influential in his life, to see his city in which he lives 60 years with the eyes of others, and to explore new aspects in it he had never seen throughout his life .

He tells «Emirates Today»: “After years of a stereotype I lived, I monitored things and places in Dubai that I did not know, and I discovered how people look at my emirate, and what dreams that I called to go to and stay in them, as I learned from my colleagues at the Dubai Taxi Company a lot ».

He added: “When I lived the experience, I realized the difference … because Dubai, which I saw as a taxi driver – was answering its streets in order to discover, and in an effort to know – I added a lot to Dubai that I knew throughout my life.”

Dr. Ammar Shams narrated his exciting experience for «Emirates Today», saying: “The first university degree I obtained was in the economy from the University of Kent in Britain, and after my return to the Emirates I worked in an oil company 17 years, during which I reached the position of head of human resources, but I am I made a decision to get out of the field of work to search for what is my passion. ”

Shams said: «I got a master’s degree in comparative international law, and after my return I worked in various jobs, including the Dubai Film Festival, and the Ministry of Federal National Council Affairs (one of the members of the first election organization team for the National Council of the State), and this is the highest professional point in my life.”

He continued: «I had an interest in the field of education, and I studied two subjects in the colleges of technology in Dubai, and after my return with a master’s degree I was allowed to teach additional materials, and I also joined one of the major banks in the country as head of human resources, then an advisor to the CEO, and besides my work I studied the history of the contemporary Arab world and ethics The work, I was a member of the Advisory Council for Technology Colleges and the Consultative Council for the founding of the British University, and I was chosen as Vice Chairman of the Dubai English Speaking School, the oldest English language in Dubai. ”

Shams continued his speech: “By returning to the study, I got a doctorate, and I went back to the state to teach at the British University, but my biggest passion is to understand human behavior and human character, so I decided to get out of the usual pattern of my life, and to contact people I had not contacted before, and I was keen Not to see me a university or Emirati professor, until they deal with me naturally, and they start talking about their opinions and ideas with comfort, as I wanted to know how people see Dubai from their perspective until I benefit and learn from them.

“I made a decision to work as a taxi driver, for my ability to do this profession physically and psychologically, as I am in love with cars, so I called (Uber) and (Karim), but they asked me to extract a license for a limousine from the Roads and Transport Authority, then I contacted someone I know in The authority, and I told him that I would like to lead a taxi, and he said to me: We are a license and we are not a employer, so I called (Taxi Dubai), and I told them my desire to work for two months, so they told me that I should submit to the laws and regulations applied to all drivers, so I was subjected to interviews and a training program, and I started work Like any (full pink) driver.

Shams added: «During the interview, the recruitment official asked me to undergo an English test despite my testimonies, so I actually took the test, then I joined the training program in the Arabic language.

“During the training, we were 35 people, including 29 Egyptians and five Algerians,” he explains.

Shams tells some of the funny situations that I encountered during his work, saying: “On one occasion, I stood in a waiting row, and I met a Limousine driver, and when he asked me about my nationality and told him that I was an Emirati, he did not believe, and I think that I impersonated a person who found his papers, and asked me to return it to its owner So that I do not fall into a problem with the company. ”

He stressed that the Emirati passengers were the least in terms of reaction or amazement than the idea, as one of them said to him: “Do they give you a good salary?”

He stated that this passenger was 13 dirhams, but he left him 100 dirhams on the seat and left.

One time I arrived in a passenger from the school, who works as a vice -chairman, and noticed that his dialect is British .. So I asked him: Are you a British? He replied that he was an Emirati, and when he looked at her, she said: I think I saw you before, so he asked her: Where do you do? She mentioned the name of the school, and he answered that he was the vice -chairman of her board of directors.

Ammar Shams explains that driving has always been a passion for him, as the most comfortable thing for him is to go out to his car, drive away from crowds and buildings.

He narrates that he drove his car with his wife once from Dubai to London, through several countries, namely: Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria and Germany.
