Empower provides district cooling services in the Northern Emirates

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance future partnership opportunities by providing district cooling services to the Northern Emirates, with the aim of improving the quality of life, consolidating the country’s leadership in adopting future industries, and achieving advanced leaps in the areas of sustainability and environmental protection. The memorandum was signed by the Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, Engineer Sharif Al Olama, and the CEO of Empower, Ahmed bin Shafar, in the presence of administrators from both parties.

This represents an important step in the process of sustainable development and the efforts of the UAE Strategy for Climate Neutrality 2050, and the country’s ambitious march to reach zero emissions.

Empower stressed its full support and commitment to joint work with the ministry’s cadres within the framework of cooperation between various government agencies to achieve national goals in the field of energy, especially clean energy, and to support the sustainable transformation in the energy sector. The new memorandum of understanding signed between the two parties reflects the common desire to achieve The UAE’s goals, which were confirmed within the COP 28 Conference of the Parties, are to reach climate neutrality by 2050.

The scientists stressed the commitment of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to cooperate with local stakeholders to achieve sustainability goals, praising the Empower Foundation as a prominent national partner with a strong commitment to environmentally friendly practices.

He said that the memorandum of understanding signed with Empower is an important step in working together to remove carbon from the utilities sector, which will contribute to achieving the UAE’s goal of reaching zero emissions by 2050.

For his part, Bin Shafar said that working with a partner the size of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is of great importance to the corporation, especially since this joint national work comes in line with the state’s vision and strategic plans aimed at achieving comprehensive sustainability in all fields, especially the fields of energy and the efficiency of its various uses.
