The Director General of the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Hosani, confirmed in a statement to “Emirates Today” that the warning messages that reached the country’s residents via their phones yesterday regarding weather fluctuations, come within the national early warning system, which the authority recently activated.
Al Hosani said that the sound of the alarm and vibration accompanying the warning messages that residents of the country received yesterday via their phones is not an annoying matter, when it comes to protecting them from danger and directing them to the right behavior, pointing out the importance of responding to them.
Yesterday, residents of the country were surprised by warning messages on their phones about weather fluctuations, as the message was automatically displayed on the screen accompanied by a loud and vibrating sound, in which the public was directed to take precautions against weather fluctuations and avoid going out unless necessary.
Al Hosani said that phone messages arrive automatically on phones that have an emergency feature, pointing out the importance of raising awareness about responding to the instructions included in these messages to protect individuals’ lives from any danger.
Citizens and residents of Abu Dhabi and Dubai received a warning message on their mobile phones from the police, alerting them to disturbed weather conditions and calling on them to be careful while driving.
The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority said that it had completed the first phase of the national early warning system by activating cellular broadcasting on mobile phones in coordination with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, to enable agencies to send warnings to the public.
