Food institutions are not obligated to appoint a calorie expert


Dubai Municipality stated that food institutions are not obligated to appoint a nutritionist to calculate calories, and to show them on lists of food and drinks offered, noting that they provide a system that helps to do so.

She added in a guide issued, recently, about calculating calories in foods, that these calories can be calculated by anyone trained to use the method of calculating calories, and the common meals that the food institution can use using calories, in the system of the system of the system « Food Watch »Municipal Food, which will be available soon, and includes a group of common foods and drinks in Dubai, in addition to the lists of foods for all food preparation institutions of all kinds, such as laboratories, cafes, fast foods and cafeteria.

She noted that other ways to analyze food data can be used, such as using various electronic nutrition programs, and manual account using a basic database of foodstuffs.

The municipality stated that the display of calories information will allow consumers in Dubai to make better decisions regarding diets, which positively affects the health of citizens and residents, and millions of tourists who visit the emirate annually.

The food institutions participating in the Leadership Initiative called on the calories statement to adopt more healthy cooking methods, reduce calories, and to promote health options available to consumers in a positive way.

The Dubai Municipality has postponed the obligation of the food institutions operating in the emirate, a statement of calories on the list of all the foods provided in all institutions that provide meals prepared in Dubai, starting from next January, and decided that the implementation of the matter would be optional for a period of two years.
