Dr. Muawiyah Al-Shannar, who passed away two days ago, and was mourned by the Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance, His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid, is considered one of the first doctors to practice medicine in the private sector in the country, at the beginning of the sixties of the last century.

Through his Twitter account, His Highness mourned the late Dr. Muawiyah Al-Shunnar, who died the day before yesterday, saying: “We extend our condolences to the family of Dr. Muawiyah Al-Shunnar, may God have mercy on him. The deceased was one of the first doctors in the Emirates. He contributed to the establishment of family medicine in Dubai and was keen on caring for people. The biography of pioneers like Dr. Muawiyah will remain ingrained in the memory of Dubai society. We ask God to shower the deceased with His mercy and place him in spacious gardens.”

Dr. Muawiyah was one of the most famous doctors in the field of family and pediatric medicine in the Emirate of Dubai. He established his first clinic in Baniyas Square on Al Maktoum Street, in the sixties and seventies, then he moved to his new headquarters in Deira, and he was famous among the people of Dubai for treating children. Young people and men, and during that period he married Dr. Zainab Kazim, the first Emirati female doctor, making them a family specialized in medicine.

The late Dr. Muawiyah was born in 1935 in the city of Nablus in Palestine, where he grew up in the city and obtained his primary and middle school diplomas and graduated from high school with a high score. He then moved immediately to Egypt to complete his university studies, where he joined the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University, and after graduating from the Faculty of Medicine. In the early sixties, he moved to work in the Emirates, then in the Emirate of Dubai, and joined work in the Kuwait Hospital, then the administration transferred him to the hospital branch in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, and after a while he returned to Dubai, and the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, may God have mercy on him, urged him to open a clinic in Dubai, to be the first private clinic in the Emirate of Dubai in the Baniyas Square area to treat citizens and residents.

Two years after opening his clinic in Dubai, Dr. Zainab Kazim, the first Emirati doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, joined him. She was working in Kuwait Hospital and he met her there when he started working in Dubai at that time, but she insisted on leaving the hospital and standing by her husband and supporting him in his work, and she shared this with him. The long humanitarian medical journey.

The family of the deceased mourned their father, saying: “With hearts that believe and are satisfied with God’s will and destiny, Dr. Muawiyah Saleh Al-Shannar passed to the mercy of God Almighty, and the funeral prayer was held yesterday, Tuesday, after the afternoon prayer, in Al Quoz Cemetery, the Emirate of Dubai.”
