Harassing a woman behind the “sword fight” in “Oud Al-Mutina”

Dubai Police arrested a suspect in the “Oud Al Muteena” brawl, which took place inside a family’s home the day before yesterday, and in which swords and white weapons were used. Investigations revealed that the suspect participated in storming the house with another young man, who is currently in the hospital under police guard, named Mohammed Saeed.

Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief, Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, said that investigations revealed that the fight began with harassment of a woman who was with her brother in front of their house, and developed into a fight with knives, adding, “What happened is absolutely unacceptable, and it is not permissible in a country with institutions such as the police and judiciary for an individual to take justice into his own hands.” A security source familiar with the investigations revealed that the currently arrested suspect, named (J.T.), has more than 60 previous convictions, including assault and other crimes, and that he was involved in beating a woman with a sword and assaulting another person inside the family home.

A family member who witnessed the fight, named Ahmed bin Bilal, said, “The incident began when the young man, Mohammed Saeed, was driving his car, accompanied by two people, one of whom was called (J.T.) and the other (a fugitive), called (A.), in front of the family’s house, while his wife was preparing to go to the hospital with her brother (Amin). He noticed that one of the passengers in the car was looking at them in an unacceptable way, so he spoke to him, but he was surprised when he got out of the car, attacked him, and pushed him in the chest, while his colleague followed him and slapped him in the face.”

“The situation developed into a quarrel. My mother-in-law was standing outside and she screamed trying to push them away. My wife’s other brothers came out, but Mohammed Saeed and his two colleagues threatened the family with revenge. They left the place and returned within minutes carrying swords and white weapons. My wife ran inside and tried to close the door, but (J) pushed her forcefully and knocked her to the ground. They stormed the house and pursued my wife’s brother, who is sick and cannot see more than two metres in front of him, into the bathroom of the house. They dealt him various blows. (J) tried to hit him with the sword, but my wife received the blow with her hands, and she sustained deep cuts.”

Bilal added that his mother-in-law was the one who called the police when they stormed the house, not Umm Muhammad Saeed, stressing that there was no previous dispute between the family and the house invaders.

In addition, the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police said, “The incident is completely different from the story told by the mother of the young man, Mohammed Saeed. It is not logical for a person to be assaulted just because he was passing by in the street.” He explained that the quarrel began when a woman and her brother were harassed by Mohammed Saeed and his two colleagues.

The report, which was prepared by Dubai Police, stated that the report was received by the Dubai Police Operations Room at 7:45 pm last Thursday, in which the owner of the house reported an incident of assault with a knife and violation of the privacy of others in the Oud Al Muteena 2 area. A patrol of detectives and criminal investigators headed to the scene of the incident, and when the woman (L.A. – employee) was questioned, she said that she was standing in front of her house with her brother (A.A.), and suddenly a car passed and approached them, and one of the passengers looked at her in an inappropriate manner, and when her brother shouted at him, he got out of the car and fought with him.

She added that the rest of her brothers, four young men, left the house, and after the skirmishes, the brothers withdrew into the house, while the car owner left and returned again with two people, and they kicked the door and entered the courtyard of the house, and they were carrying swords, and the quarrel broke out between the car owner and his two companions, and the five brothers, and resulted in the injury of the accused Muhammad Saeed with severe injuries, while the rest sustained injuries ranging from moderate to minor.

Accordingly, the vehicle owner, one of his friends, and the five brothers were arrested, while Mohamed Saeed is in the hospital receiving treatment under police guard. The incident is being investigated after the public prosecutor on duty inspected the incident at the time.

A security source stated that the brothers were detained only to obtain their statements, while charges were brought against Muhammad Saeed and his companion (J.T.), and a third fugitive accused of storming and assault, and investigations are ongoing.
