Important procedures to protect data privacy when connected to the Internet

Experts in the field of information technology and data security warned against harmful practices that threaten the privacy of individuals and companies when connected to the Internet, stressing the need to follow a number of basic procedures to avoid risks related to electronic piracy.

They mentioned to «Emirates Today» that one of the most prominent of these procedures is the need to be careful when dealing with the data collected by applications, and preventing the granting of any unnecessary permissions, as well as storing data on reliable cloud services only, noting that ignoring the power of passwords and using public networks without caution can expose the data to danger, in addition to the need to be careful not to pressure suspicious links.

In detail, the security researcher at Kaspersky International, Maher Yamut, said that “the use of artificial intelligence has increased the risk of penetrating the privacy of individuals connected to the Internet,” noting that more than 49 billion cases of “tracking user behavior” were made during the past year only.

He added that the most used applications, such as social media, e -commerce and fitness applications, are a major threat to the privacy of users, especially as they collect and share huge quantities of personal data.

He pointed out that these applications may use artificial intelligence techniques to access photo libraries and analyze their data, which exposes users to monitor and analyze their behavior, explaining that shopping applications allow tracking the purchasing record and geographical location, while health and fitness applications collect sensitive data, such as daily routine and health data.

He demanded that users die carefully to review applications for application permissions, and disrupt unnecessary permissions, such as accessing the geographical location of the applications that you do not need, and also called for the use of privacy -focused tools, and avoiding unidentified payment methods.

He stressed that it is also important to activate the “non -tracking” settings on the devices and within various applications, and used a security solution that includes the “non -tracking” feature to reduce the tracking more.

He pointed out that avoiding public wireless networks saves the privacy of data more, as public wireless networks or counterfeit open networks can expose the data to risk, stressing the importance of reviewing applications settings, and canceling the installation of any unused applications.

For his part, the general manager of the CNS technology company in the Middle East, Asif Suleiman, said that “cyber threats are increasing in a complex manner, in light of the great dependence on digital systems for storing and managing sensitive information.”

He stressed the importance of securing passwords, the need to choose strong passwords, and to activate the bilateral approval feature to protect accounts.

In turn, the director of customer consulting in the Middle East, Turkey and Africa at SAS Technical Company, Jalal Kavakulo, stated that rapid developments in artificial intelligence and cloud computing have led to an increased challenges related to the protection of personal data.

He pointed out that regulations such as “GDPR” and “CCPA” are now imposing strict restrictions on how to use data.

In the same context, Johnny Karam, the general manager of the Kohaisite company, said that “electronic threats are constantly escalating, which requires promoting awareness of the importance of preserving data privacy and using appropriate technical systems to protect them.”

He added, “In light of these warnings, the necessity of following the preventive measures to secure personal data and protect them from electronic risks remain vital in a world that is increasingly related.”
