The Sharjah Cooperative Society confirmed that providing parking for consumers is considered one of its priorities, as it fines all cars that park for more than three hours in its parking lots, and the violation may lead to the car being towed, seized, and its owner fined 1,000 dirhams, after placing a notice and warning that it must be moved within 24 hours. Pointing out that it has no intention of subjecting parking to payment, as it is keen to provide services to customers, shareholders and consumers with the highest levels of comfort.
This came in response to the observations and complaints of some consumers and citizens who contacted Emirates Today, and they confirmed that they do not find sufficient parking lots of times when they go shopping from the various branches of the association, especially the Al-Khan and Al-Qarain branches, pointing out that the association’s parking lots are exploited by the residents of the buildings. The director of the Nakheilat, Media and Public Relations Branch at the Sharjah Cooperative Society, Ahmed Salem Al-Salman, confirmed to Emirates Today, in response to consumer observations and complaints, that shoppers and shareholders have the right to have sufficient parking spaces available to them when they come to shop, noting that the Al Khan branch is one of the branches that witnesses crowding and demand. On its parking lots, due to the population density in the area, as the number of parking spaces is 45, pointing out that the residents of the buildings constantly use the parking spaces despite the presence of signs. It was a warning, which prompted the association’s management, in cooperation with the Sharjah Municipality, to take measures and set requirements that would limit these negative practices.
He continued that the signs that were placed by the association’s management did not achieve their effectiveness and goals at first, as some residents were encroaching on the privacy of the parking lots, indicating that cooperation and agreement had been made with the parking department in the Sharjah Municipality to limit this phenomenon, as a notice was placed on the car. Al-Salman stated that the association’s administration, in cooperation with the Sharjah Municipality, placed informational and guidance signs urging no one to use the parking lots unless he is a shopper or a contributor to the association, as this measure contributed to reducing violating parking lot visitors, and gave priority to customers and beneficiaries of the association’s services, pointing out that At least two cars are towed every month from the parking lots of the association’s branches. He pointed out that the parking lots at the Al Qarain branch are not sufficient for shoppers and shareholders, as the parking spaces are not proportional to the association’s area and the number of citizens living in the area. He pointed out that a plot of land was allocated in agreement with the Department of Planning and Survey in Sharjah, which can accommodate 60 new parking spaces to serve consumers, as it was paved. Parking lots will be ready soon.
In response to the association receiving some suggestions to subject parking to fees paid in cooperation with the Sharjah Municipality, Al-Salman confirmed that the association currently has no intention or plan to subject parking to fees.
