The coach of the UAE national track cycling team for youth and juniors, Badr Thani, confirmed the continuation of the weekly gatherings of club players at the Zayed Track in Sharjah, in preparation for selecting the best elements to represent the team in the Arab Track Cycling Championship, which will be held in Cairo, next November, pointing out that there are more than 18 cyclists in the youth and junior categories, in preparation for registering the distinguished cyclists in the national team records.
Badr Thani told Al-Emarat Al-Youm: “The Cycling Federation was keen to organize a regular gathering for cyclists three days a week, in which about 18 cyclists participate. The gathering began at the beginning of August and will continue until the start of the Arab Track Championship in Cairo.”
He added: “The goal is to continue training on the track, prepare a new generation of riders, and form a base of talents to compete in upcoming championships.”
The cycling team participates annually in the Arab Track Championship in Cairo, which is accredited by the International Cycling Union, in search of qualifying points for international races and competitions. The team succeeded in winning 42 medals in last year’s championship.
