The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates issued commemorative gold and silver coins on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi Library as the first library in the Emirate of Sharjah, within the framework of the Sharjah Islamic Bank’s initiative to support cultural initiatives that embody national identity and enhance the position of the Emirate of Sharjah as a capital of culture and knowledge. .
The issuance of these commemorative coins aims to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the first library in the Emirate of Sharjah in 1925, as it became a scientific and cultural edifice due to its unique collection of rare manuscripts, Arab and international books and references that reflect the progress of cultural and human thought, in addition to historical maps dating back to eras. A variety of time periods, which together represent a source of enrichment for researchers and readers.
The front side of these coins includes a drawing of the Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi Library building, the years 1925-2025, the nominal value of the coin, and the phrase “Sultan Bin Saqr Al Qasimi Library Centenary,” along with the phrase “Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates” in both Arabic and English. As for the reverse side of the coins, it includes the name of the library: “Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi.”
Each gold coin weighs 40 grams and has a nominal value of 1,000 dirhams. 125 pieces will be issued. As for silver coins, each coin weighs 60 grams with a nominal value of 100 dirhams, and 1,250 pieces will be issued.
All offered coins will be delivered to Sharjah Islamic Bank, where they will be available for sale at the main headquarters of Sharjah Islamic Bank only.
