The player of the national team and the Abu Dhabi Chess and Mental Games Club, Rawda Al Sarkal, revealed her ambition to be the first Emirati woman to win the world championship, after being crowned the day before yesterday in the Arab Championship, which was held at the Sharjah Chess Club, with the participation of more than 200 players, male and female, representing 18 countries, as well as Obtaining the title of “Grand International Professor” is a historical precedent for an Emirati female athlete.

She told Emirates Today: “Behind this achievement are many institutions and individuals who supported my career, led by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak (Mother of the Emirates), President of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, to whom I dedicate this achievement. I pay tribute to the support of the UAE Game Federation, the Abu Dhabi Chess and Mind Games Club, and my family, which supported me on all occasions.”

She added: “The title of a senior international professor represents a great responsibility, and motivates me for the future, which now requires preparations at the highest level, given the strength of the competitions and merits that will await me.”

She continued: “It has become my dream to win the Women’s World Championship title, and I will work hard to make this happen in the near future.”

Rawda Al Sarkal killed more than one bird with one stone during her participation in the Arab Championship, as she became the first Emirati player to win the Arab Women’s Championship title, after she won the title of Arab Classic Champion (women’s category) after topping the championship competitions with 7.5 points, and also guaranteed her participation in the Championship. The world for this category, after the Arab Federation obtained the approval of its international counterpart to accredit the winners of the Arab Championship title among the participants in the World Championship.

For his part, Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, President of the Arab Federation and President of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, expressed his great happiness with the great achievement achieved by the Emirati champion. He said in press statements, “Arab championships have become very special, and the evidence is the high level of participation of male and female players from all Arab countries.”

In turn, the President of the Abu Dhabi Chess and Mind Games Club, Hussein Khoury, said: “We have great cooperation with the Chess Federation and the Arab Federation of the game to prepare players capable of representing the UAE in the largest chess forums, as we hold permanent camps for all distinguished male and female players affiliated with the club, such as Rawda and Omran Al Hosani. To prepare them in the best possible way for foreign tournaments.”
