New clinics at Dubai Hospital to accommodate allergy and immunology patients soon


Dr. Hussein Al-Hattawi, Consultant Head of the Immunology and Allergy Department at Dubai Hospital, stated that the recovery rate from some allergy and immune diseases in Dubai reached 90%, compared to 80% globally, due to the correct and accurate treatment programs followed, pointing out that the black ants “Samsum”, Herbaceous plants, widespread in the local environment, are behind the most dangerous types of allergies, while household dust, cockroaches, weeds, and cats are the most prominent causes of allergic diseases among citizens, in general. Pointing out the hospital’s intention to open new clinics to accommodate the increasing number of visits from allergy and immunology patients soon.

Al-Hattawi explained to Emirates Today that Dubai Hospital is working to establish new clinics to treat allergy and immune diseases, as a result of the increase in the number of patients, pointing out that the hospital succeeded during the current year in raising the capacity to treat allergy and allergy patients by 100%, noting that About 1,500 allergy and immunology patients visit the department annually.

He warned of the danger of some types of allergies resulting from black ants “Samsum,” which may cause difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, and death if a doctor is not consulted in a timely manner, and a herbaceous plant that grows in the local environment, whose scientific name is “Salsola Kali,” or what is known locally. “Rammar” plant, which causes nasal and eye allergies and asthma, in addition to skin allergies, stressing the importance of the time factor in treating the patient to avoid negative complications of some types of allergies.

He pointed out that environmental and genetic factors are the main causes of immune and allergic diseases in the country, noting that immune diseases are usually rare, as they affect newborns at a rate of approximately one in every 100,000 children, while allergic diseases affect approximately one in every 10 people.

Al-Hattawi continued that the most prominent immune diseases are concentrated in the deficiency of antibodies in newborns, dual immunodeficiency, and white cell eczema deficiency, while allergic diseases are concentrated in allergic nasal irritation, skin rashes, and eczema. He added that food allergies are considered the most common type among young people, compared to asthma among adults, while old statistics indicate that asthma affects 25% of children, and the percentage decreases at older ages.

Al-Hattawi said that the number of allergy patients visiting Dubai Hospital has recently doubled, due to the uniqueness of the effective and accurate treatment programs, in addition to the qualitative examinations and analyzes that the hospital is unique from others, which made it a destination for patients from various regions, which imposed the necessity of establishing new clinics to accommodate the disease. Increase patients.
