No violence in Dubai Police investigations


The Director of the Oversight and Inspection Department at the General Department of Human Rights in Dubai Police, Lieutenant Colonel Khaled Saeed, confirmed to Emirates Al-Youm that the use of force against accused or suspects is prohibited in Dubai police stations, pointing out that police officers follow modern investigation methods. It does not include any form of violence.

He pointed out that “one of the complaints came from a person of European nationality who was accused in a drug abuse case. He claimed that he had been beaten inside a police station, so we brought in police officers and prepared a diagnostic queue. The accused pointed to a policeman who was not present in the station in the first place, and when he realized… Later, his statements began to contradict each other.

Regarding the presence of complaints about the way police officers speak or deal, Saeed said, “Verbal abuse cannot be proven, and if the complaint is repeated against a policeman, action will be taken against him,” but he emphasized the department’s keenness to document everything with pictures “so that the wrongdoer can be confronted.” And take the necessary action against him,” adding: “We have powerful evidentiary tools, such as cameras located at every point, that can be used to confirm the truth or falsity of the complaint.”

Saeed stressed that “the administration takes its measures in all cases, and investigates the complaints it receives,” pointing out that it is directly monitored by the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Major General Khamis Mattar Al Muzainah, as he is keen to review the reports and know the results of the investigations conducted by specialized committees to find out. the truth.

He pointed out that the Command Security Department issued temporary entry permits to 2,015 people during the year 2013, compared to 2,934 permits in 2012, while it prepared 43 reports on the security surveys it carried out inside the Command during the past year, compared to 58 reports in 2012.

The Department is responsible for following up on the inspection tours carried out by the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, or his representative. It also undertakes the task of supervising and inspecting policemen in everything related to their administrative and practical behaviour.

Saeed pointed out that the inspection department participated in 31 rounds during the past year, and prepared records of 859 decisions issued by the Commander-in-Chief, or his representative.

Saeed stressed that the tasks undertaken by the department are directly monitored by the Commander-in-Chief of Police, due to its direct relationship with Dubai Police employees, noting that the Oversight and Inspection Department also undertakes the tasks of providing lectures to policemen over a period of 145 hours annually, and the lectures relate to all aspects of work.
