Nuts .. an increase in demand up to 50%.. and the highest “organic”


A field survey conducted by «Emirates Today» in the main sale outlets for retail trade showed that about 49 brands of nuts of all kinds, at a time when locally packed products in the Emirates acquired a major share of the offered products, followed by imported from countries, most notably Lebanon, India and the United States.

Two officials in the retail sector told «Emirates Today» that the nuts are witnessing an increase in demand by up to 50%, both during the holy month of Ramadan, and before Eid Al -Fitr, pointing out that the nuts market is characterized by a significant diversity that enhances the entry of new brands that meet the high demand from consumers, by supporting the growth of health nutrition behavior.

Brands

In detail, a field survey conducted by «Emirates Today» on the main sales outlets for the retail trade showed that there are about 49 brands of nuts of all kinds.

The survey indicated the acquisition of the nuts that carry the brands of the outlets of the sales outlets on the major share of the supply, as well as a large share of the brands packed in the country, with a number of more than 21 brands, while the rest of the brands return to a different origin that includes Asian countries such as India, Singapore, Thailand, in addition to trademarks from Lebanon, France, the United Kingdom, Greece, and the United States, And another with origin from Latin American countries, such as Chile and Brazil, in addition to nuts with Iranian origin.

Organic nuts

The field survey also showed that the organic nuts imported from European countries, and from Latin America in general, are among the highest price in the markets, as the price of a package of 120 grams reaches 199 dirhams, while packages of organic nuts with a Brazilian origin with a weight of 236 grams are sold at 100 dirhams.

In turn, peanuts, and the seeds of legumes of all kinds, whether separate or mixed with peanuts, are less expensive products.

Diversity

According to the field survey, there is a great diversity in the types and shapes of nuts in the local markets, as they include products sold in loose forms, and are usually at prices lower than coated species, whether in plastic packages, or metal and glass timbs.

There are nuts sold without (roasting) or any additions to them, such as spices and salts, which are sold for cooking purposes, or their use as a mixture of eastern and western desserts, in addition to being witnessing a request from dealers who prefer healthy patterns in nutrition or who apply diet programs.

And spread in the market, roasted and salty nuts, and others mixed with red pepper, lemon or caramel, in addition to nuts with chimney flavors, or Mexican or Thai and Filipino flavors, which include different spices. There are also unused nuts in mixtures with raisins, in addition to mixtures with different types of dried fruits and different grains.

The “almond” is one of the most common and demanding types of nuts in the markets, and it is sold in various forms, whether in kilograms or canned, in addition to that it is available, salted, roasted, grated, and chopped.

Other types of nuts are also available, the most prominent of which is the “casheo”, which is available in various forms, including mixed with red pepper, salted, or cheese flavor.

The markets also provide multi -taste and shape nuts, such as nuts, hazelnuts, bickens, peanuts, and salted dried chickpeas, in addition to Asian nuts and peanuts, and the list of nuts has also expanded to include beating and salted vegetables, most notably peas, roasted and salted atom.

High competitiveness

“Nuts products are witnessing high competitiveness with gradual growth in demand, supported by high health nutrition trends among dealers, especially on unsalted items,” said Ashok Fishall.

He added, “The demand for nuts during Ramadan increases at rates of up to 50% compared to the normal days,” noting that many consumers will accept the purchase before Eid Al -Fitr, which makes that period a popular season for nuts.

For his part, the sales officer in one of the retailers selling outlets, Mohamed Amin, agreed that the “nuts” market is characterized by a high competitiveness that supports the entry of many new brands continuously, and the exit of other brands in return. The high share of the brands of the products that are manufactured and packaged in the country attributed the fact that local manufacturing raises the revenues for companies instead of relying on import only, pointing to the entry of many brands to the “packing market” locally to keep pace with the growth of demand for them.

He pointed out that “the season of Ramadan and Eid al -Fitr witnesses an increase in the demand for these products, ranged between 40 and 50% compared to normal periods, with the dependence of many communities to prepare meals and sweets that enter into their components multiple types of nuts.”


Multiple benefits

Scientific and medical reports have revealed the existence of multiple benefits of nuts in general, as they contain good levels of vitamins and minerals beneficial to the body, substances that protect the high cholesterol, maintain heart health, and prevent many diseases, when following balanced and healthy dietary systems.

Reports indicated that pistachios, for example, contains good amounts of fiber, some of which are food for beneficial bacteria in the intestine, called “Bibiotics”, which encourages their growth, in turn to ferment the fibers and convert them into fatty acids that have many benefits, such as preventing digestive diseases, cancer, and heart disease.

Pistachio products also contribute to the expansion of blood vessels in the body, as pistachios are a good source of amino acid.

“Walnuts” nuts are characterized by containing more calories, and less carbohydrates compared to other nuts, because “walnuts” contains larger amounts of fat, as it is a good source of protein and other food items, and adding to food reduces the rate of harmful cholesterol, and reduces its average in general in the body.

As for the “cashews”, it is an excellent source of copper, whose deficiency is related to a decrease in bone density and an increased risk of being fragile, as it plays an important role in maintaining fixed levels of collagen.

The consumption of “almonds” is related to a low risk of heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s, while almonds contain large quantities of magnesium, which usually spreads among people with type 2 diabetes, and therefore obtaining sufficient quantities of it and treating its deficiency in lowering blood sugar levels, improving insulin function, in addition to lowering high blood pressure.

Despite the high benefits of nuts, there are many tips that call for not overbishing in large quantities, in order to avoid weight gain, as a result of high rates of eating them with other meals.
