Obliging a young man to clean the streets for 3 months and a fine of 17 thousand dirhams


The Public Prosecution ordered community service measures in Abu Dhabi to oblige a young citizen to clean roads and public squares for a period of three months, in implementation of the ruling issued by the Abu Dhabi Court obliging him to perform community service for a period of three months, in addition to fining him 17 thousand dirhams, and withdrawing his driver’s license for a period of three months, after he was convicted of a charge of Carrying out crazy stunts, driving a car without license plates, not paying attention to rainy weather conditions, endangering his life and the lives of others, and not stopping without an acceptable excuse at Causing an accident.

This ruling is considered the first issued by Abu Dhabi Local Courts within the framework of implementing Law No. (7) of 2016, which stipulates the inclusion of community service punishment in some misdemeanor rulings as an alternative to the punishment of imprisonment not exceeding six months or a fine.

The Public Prosecution in Abu Dhabi referred a young (unemployed) citizen to court, on grounds of performing crazy stunts while driving a car without license plates, not taking into consideration the weather conditions, endangering his life and the lives of others, and not stopping when causing an accident.

The court convicted the accused of what was charged to him, and ruled that he be required to perform community service for three months on the charge of driving a vehicle without a license plate, and fined him 10,000 dirhams on the charge of not stopping when causing an accident. The ruling also included withdrawing the accused’s driving license for three months, and fining him 7,000 dirhams. For the remaining charges for connection, and obligating him to pay penal fees.

For its part, the Public Prosecution in Abu Dhabi stated that the Community Prosecution was recently established with the aim of following up on the implementation of community service measures issued, noting that the areas of community service implementation include humanitarian, educational, environmental and service work aimed at public benefit, and would result in a real change in the trends of The psychological and intellectual treatment of the convict, in addition to refining his motives and reforming his behavior.

It is noteworthy that the Community Service Prosecution is the authority that has the authority to determine the place where the penalty will be implemented, and to supervise its implementation, through coordination with the entity where these measures are implemented.
