Yesterday, His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, opened the Sharjah Livestock Market at its modern headquarters in the Al Sajaa area in Sharjah.
His Highness listened to an explanation about the market’s facilities and the services it contains that meet the needs of the people of the emirate. He also watched a documentary presentation about the stages of building the market, and the most prominent challenges it faced.
His Highness the Crown Prince of Sharjah also toured the corridors of the market, looking at the most prominent shops, barns and service facilities, as the market includes 141 sheep selling stores equipped with barns that can accommodate 6,200 heads, 26 livestock stores that can accommodate 2,288 heads of livestock, and 12 camel stores that can accommodate 880 heads of camels. And 74 shops selling poultry.
It also includes 44 stores that sell fodder, 34 multi-use commercial stores, and 32 stores that include various nurseries.
The stores were designed according to approved international standards in terms of space, general shape and facilities, with a focus on general cleanliness in order to preserve the health of consumers.
The market contains an auction area for selling livestock, in addition to a special arena for events. The market includes a mosque that can accommodate 386 worshipers, 49 prayer rooms and all service facilities, which include the imam’s residence and ablution places for men and others for women, in addition to an administrative building for managing the market consisting of a ground and first floor. It includes 13 administrative offices, a meeting room, a break room, and a cafeteria, in addition to a laboratory that includes modern laboratory supplies and equipment, and veterinary clinics that include surgery rooms. X-ray rooms, examination rooms, and care incubators.
The market also includes a private residence for employees, complete with services and facilities, and can accommodate 200 employees.
The livestock market is attached to an advanced slaughterhouse with capabilities and equipment that operate according to the latest technologies used in slaughtering, cutting and packaging meat, whether for personal use, commercial purposes, or major occasions.
His Highness the Crown Prince of Sharjah followed up on the slaughterhouse’s work mechanisms, which are conducted using the latest automated equipment, with the participation of specialized workers, and in accordance with health and environmental oversight.

The slaughterhouse accommodates approximately 240 heads of livestock per hour, according to the following pace of the slaughter line: from 150 to 200 heads of sheep per hour.
