Reporting cases of abuse against children is mandatory


The Ministry of Interior has stressed that it is mandatory for community members to report cases of abuse and assault to children to the competent authorities, as UAE law requires them to report if they suspect or know that any child has been subjected to physical assault, sexual abuse and exploitation, emotional and psychological abuse, or the child has been exposed to… To be abandoned, neglected or homeless.

The Ministry stressed that it is necessary to report if children are exploited for begging or for economic and financial benefits, warning that depriving a child of his legally guaranteed rights, such as the right to education, health care, and upright moral upbringing, requires anyone who witnesses or learns about it to inform the competent legal authorities, and this is the purpose of the existence of The child protection hotline and the “My Protection” application, which was launched by the Ministry of the Interior to communicate with members of all segments of society, is one of the means that enhances child protection, and is used to report any suspicion of child abuse at the level of State.

She pointed out that the hotline and smart application work to protect children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and anyone can report any issue related to child abuse through the two channels.

While the Child Protection Center at the Ministry of Interior confirmed that it immediately provides advice and support to those who report cases of suspected child abuse or neglect, and takes the necessary measures in this context, with the aim of providing safety, security and protection for all children in the UAE.

She stressed that the safety and security of children is a top priority, as the UAE is an example and role model in the region in enhancing child protection and security, through measures to enhance the security and safety of our societies.

The center called on the public not to publish videos, photographic clips, or any recordings on the Internet that include abuse of people, especially those related to abuse of children, as they will be subject to legal liability.

The center indicated that UAE law stipulates a violation of publishing material that includes abuse or defamation of people, or publishing any material that includes child abuse.

Article 44 of Law No. 3 of 2016 regarding child protection, known as “Wadeema,” stipulates that “the identity of the person who made the report may not be disclosed except with his consent, and it is prohibited to disclose the identity of all parties to the incident and witnesses in cases of child abuse or mistreatment. When using the information in analyses, media reports, or publishing everything that can be identified.”

As for Article 45 of the law, it stipulates that “the concerned and competent authorities must provide protection for witnesses at all stages of the criminal case,” while Article 49 stipulates that “the child protection specialist must notify the parents of the child or the person who is caring for him, and the child who has reached the age of 13 years.” “They have the right to reject the measure proposed to them.”
