Schools guide teachers’ behavior with a “list of professional and ethical prohibitions”

School administrations redistributed a school circular containing a list of professional and ethical warnings that teachers are prohibited from committing, while inside and outside schools, noting that the list of warnings constitutes a guiding basis for determining best practices in ethical and professional behavior.

Prohibited behaviors included accepting gifts from students and their families inside or outside the school campus, favouritism, nepotism, unfair preference, discrimination, or making any financial participation or pledge that could jeopardize the school’s goals or activities, directly or indirectly, or using Public or work-related resources for personal purposes or personal gain, or spending financial resources in an excessive or wasteful manner. It also included forming any inappropriate relationship, sending any messages or pictures to students inside or outside the classroom, revealing confidential information regarding a student, publishing false news, rumors, or data and sharing them with students, or using verbal or physical violence with students. Or carrying out any act that offends parents or community members through word or action, or revealing confidential information related to a parent, in addition to any act that harms or harms the reputation of the educational institution and its employees.

The schools stressed the prohibition of wearing tight, transparent or inappropriate clothing for the work environment, or using obscene language and talking about any behavior that is inconsistent with the customs and traditions prevailing in the country, and prohibiting everything that might hinder the identification of the male or female employee, including covering the face by the administrative staff. During working hours (except for health cases).

It also included publishing any picture of the educational institution, current or former faculty members, or students and parents without prior approval from the relevant parties, or making inappropriate comments through any form of social communication, including electronic communication, or making public comments. , especially outside the official capacity, with the aim of undermining the reputation of colleagues or the authority of the school, or education in general, or sharing confidential or sensitive information with any party inside or outside the school, who is not authorized to obtain the information, or leaking any exam questions.

The circular warned against engaging in a conversation with students about sensitive issues that do not serve an educational purpose related to the agreed-upon curriculum, or discussing religious topics that cause division, or discussing any events that could harm the public interest.

Officials in public and private schools: Muhammad Abdul Latif, Rabab Qasim, Zainab Ali, and Nashwa Khalifa, confirmed that the list of prohibited items reflects the keenness of school administrations to establish clear and declared ethical standards and basic behavioral rules and principles for the educational and pedagogical process. The Department of Education and Knowledge stated that schools are obligated to apply the basic values ​​of education and moral commitment in all their daily work, and to disseminate them effectively in the school community.
