Skyscanner’s price audit reveals the week ending 31 August delivers the best overall value for summer travel from the UAE. That week, on average, offered lower round‑trip fares across a basket of popular destinations when compared with peak summer weeks. The result contrasts with many travellers’ expectations, as more than half of respondents believed July to be the cheapest month for summer tickets.
Skyscanner says the apparent anomaly stems from a mix of demand patterns and airline pricing strategies late in the season. With families tied to school calendars earlier in August and stronger demand earlier in the month, fares often decrease as the peak subsides towards the end of August. The platform recommends checking a wider range of departure dates rather than assuming a single low-cost window.
Cairo and Tokyo offer largest family savings
The analysis highlights Cairo as one of the top opportunities for savings, with average return fares dropping from AED1,592 to AED1,105 in the cheapest week. That difference amounts to AED487 per passenger and up to AED1,949 for a family of four. Tokyo also shows sizeable reductions, with average round trips falling from AED2,209 to AED1,686, a saving of AED522 per traveller or roughly AED2,088 for a four-person party.
These destination-specific swings demonstrate that savings are not uniform and can vary widely by route. Travellers planning to visit high-demand or long-haul markets should compare week-by-week pricing to identify routes where late-season reductions are likeliest.
No single low-cost window across destinations, analysis shows
Skyscanner’s data underlines that there is no universal “cheapest week” that applies to every destination. While the week ending 31 August provided the best aggregated value, the lowest fares for individual cities differ and can fall in other August weeks. For example, some travellers bound for Denpasar or other seasonal beach markets may find better rates earlier or later in the month.
As a result, the most effective saving strategy is granular date comparison for each intended city. Using flexible-date search tools and comparing several adjacent weeks can reveal meaningful discounts without requiring travellers to change destinations.
Booking behaviour: 47% of travellers have not yet booked
Survey results accompanying the price analysis indicate almost half of UAE travellers (47%) had not finalised summer bookings at the time of the study. This hesitancy leaves substantial room for price-sensitive buyers to capitalise on late-season deals if they are willing to monitor fare trends. The average planned spend on return air travel for a summer holiday outside the UAE is reported at around AED1,433 per person.
At the same time, many consumers hold fixed preferences and schedules that limit flexibility. Only a third of respondents said they had flexibility in choosing travel dates, which reduces the pool of travellers able to take advantage of the lowest-cost weeks.

Skyscanner’s findings highlight the trade-off between savings and schedule constraints, with 33% of travellers indicating they can adjust their holiday timing. Conversely, 27% cited school holidays or other commitments as binding constraints on when they can travel. Seventeen percent identified fixed departure dates or uncertainty about flight routings as major planning challenges.
These constraints explain why many families still pay a premium for convenience rather than chasing the absolute lowest fare. For households with limited date flexibility, Skyscanner suggests focusing on incremental shifts of one or two weeks as these can still yield substantial reductions without upending plans.

Ayoub Al‑Mamoun, a travel analyst at Skyscanner, says modest adjustments in departure and return weeks can translate into meaningful savings across the total holiday budget. He notes that even when families choose not to change their destination, expanding the date search window can provide fares that cover hotel costs or local activities. The analyst advises travellers to use tools that allow weekly or monthly price comparisons to spot the best combinations of flight price and convenience.
Al‑Mamoun also recommends that travellers set fare alerts and compare multi‑airport options where feasible, since flexible routing and alternative nearby airports can produce further discounts.
