The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al -Wasl Football Company, Ahmed Al -Shafar, affirmed the difficulty of competition in the AFC Champions League for elite clubs on any local team, indicating that the external participation needs huge budgets, especially since the Emirati clubs faced the current season as Asian teams with budgets of one billion dirhams, at a time when our club budgets reach 250 or 300 million dirhams.
Ahmed Al -Shafar told «Emirates Today»: “There is a big difference in the material capabilities that are in the interest of Asian clubs, whose budgets allow them to contract with players with quality and a big difference.” He explained: «Al Ain is the best to represent the Emirates clubs externally, as he succeeded in obtaining the AFC Champions League last year, but he did not succeed in the current elite championship, as well as Al -Ahly youth will find great difficulty during the next season when he participates in the elite championship, because the Asian Championship needs additional foreign players at great levels, if we are looking for victory and competition and otherwise it will be very difficult for any local team in the competition.
Al-Wasl had missed the opportunity to occupy the third place in the ADNOC Professional League, qualifying for Asian participation after the tie, the day before yesterday, with its guest Al-Wahda (2-2), to become the “emperor” in the fourth place on the ranking list with 34 points, while Al-Wahda maintained third place with 36 points.
On the competition of Al -Wasl third in the league, Al -Shafar said: “After the first place in the championship, the second becomes like the third and ninth, but we must offer what we have, and we end the season well until we are satisfied with the fans and all fans of Al -Wasl, there are still five games, and we seek to achieve the largest number of points for the end of the season in the best way.”
He added: “Al -Wasl returned to its natural level that appeared last season when he achieved the dualism, and I believe that the team fought a season that did not happen years ago, as he witnessed the difficult Asian participation and the Super championships, and the President’s Cup, and with the end of the season approaching and increasing the focus, Al -Wasl appeared at the level of last year, as a result of the focus in only one championship, to show the players with their level, but the beginning of the season was the focus in more than one championship, and caused physical crises for the players.”
